- Humphrey invites Martha to romantically enjoy her weekend in Sainte-Marie to a private island hotel, but their time together dwindles as hotel manager Elliot Taylor's visiting brother Charlie is fatally knife-stabbed. The murder was successfully carried out while the only access to the victim's room was via a staircase, which Humphrey had his eyes on the whole time. Only the few people on site can be suspects. The hotel receptionist Irie Johnson may have played a role in the murder when the victim learned that Irie was masterminding a credit card scam, as well as fellow employees Samuel Palmer and cook Ernestine Gray. The family hotel which elder brother Elliot kept running with wife Linda after Charlie left to do development work is near-bankrupt, Charlie has a lawyer prepare bankruptcy papers, which disappeared. Cigarettes from a long-discontinued brand Charlie kept trail back to a juvenile arson trauma. A splinter in Dwayne's finger inspires Humphrey to rethink all and identify the murderer.—KGF Vissers
