Overboard
phd_travel15 January 2018
This Christmas comedy romance uses the Overboard formula and it works well enough. Amnesia strikes a woman about to divorce and the Odd Couple type pair get a second chance. Unlike the Groundhog Day thing which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Living together is harder than falling in love.

Katrina Begin plays the lady who loses her memory after an accident. Tilky Jones is her messy husband. okay for the role with his dude speak - it actually suits the irresponsible guy persona.

Charlene Tilton - Lucy of Dallas is mom and she is quite nice to see on screen again.

Worth one watch.

Good Enough

The romance was a bit odd when it comes to its morals, but it was an okay movie overall. The couple had chemistry and the performances were decent.

Beautiful...

"Second Chance Christmas" is a Drama - Romance movie in which we watch a woman suffering from amnesia after an accident and she tries to remember her life, her husband and her routine. Her husband, family and friends help her as they can in order for her to remember everything as fast as possible.

I liked this movie because it was entertaining and it had a simple but good enough plot to make it interesting. It reminded the movie "The Vow" of 2012 since the plot is mostly the same. The interpretations of both Katrina Begin who played as Caroline and Tilky Jones who played as Jack were good and their combination worked also pretty good. The direction which was made by Danny Buday was average without something worth mentioning. To sum up, I have to say that "Second Chance Christmas" is another average Christmas, romantic movie with some cliché moments but still entertaining.

Not That Hard

Dude, just clean up after yourself, and pay attention to your wife! Then she wouldn't have left you. No girl wants to accept such a pigsty.

Shaky ethical ground
Jackbv1231 December 2018
Jack is lazy, undisciplined, and has an iffy relationship with the truth.

Caroline is demanding, apparently micromanaging, and is unethical enough to deceive her husband into signing divorce papers without knowing.

Jack, in conspiracy with Caroline's parents, continues to lie to Caroline more than a few times. They justify it by saying they are trying not to stress her, but he doesn't have enough love or respect for her to clean up the house even a little before she gets home.

All this in the first quarter of the movie. At this point I wasn't sure I empathized with either one of them. She becomes more likable after the amnesia, but I can't tell he has improved at all. In fact I dislike him more and more because he is so stupid in addition to every other flaw.

In some movies, personalities change 180 with barely any justification for it. This movie does a great job of explaining changes.

The last third or so of the movie disappointed me and I don't want to spoil anything as to why.

Not a Christmas Movie. And not a "good" movie.
fringe-227 October 2019
There are multiple "Second Chance Christmas" titles. This one focuses around Caroline, an (initially) disgruntled over-achiever, Jack, her somewhat-slacker husband, and amnesia.

To avoid any spoilers, that's all you get of the plot. But all you need to know is... there are these two protagonists and five secondary characters... an assistant, two best friends (his) and two parents (hers.) Of these, all but two of the secondary characters pretty much lie the whole time. Caroline is the main character, supposed to be the one you're sympathetic towards, and she starts the movie off with forgery, a felony. (Even though he signed, it's still forgery if she mislead as to what he was signing.)

Christmas isn't actually relevant to the movie. It's barely a minor player. If there were "Groundhog Day Parties", this could easily have been "Second Chance Groundhog".

Despite all this, the movie is more about abandonment (or feelings there-of) than deception. This really screams "Ho ho ho!", doesn't it?

Even at the very end of the movie, mercifully less than 100 minutes in, we learn they're still keeping secrets from each-other. And, in a continued break from reality, they celebrate the suddenly-unveiled news rather than distrusting the deception... even though she mentions it.

There are worse movies. But this is pretty bad.

Christmas Gaslighting
lauraly6 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Basically, this is a story about a couple that is breaking up near Christmas because the husband is a selfish, irresponsible man-child. The wife is in an accident and she sustains a head injury that causes amnesia. She no longer remembers anything, including she was in the process of divorcing her husband. So the husband and her mother (and the father goes along) basically gaslight her into believing she is happily married to this slacker, and spends her time cooking, decorating, and cleaning up after her husband, who sleeps on the couch all day when he is not gaming. In reality, she is a go getter who owns her own business, and her husband and family are willing to let it go under so she conforms to this June Cleaver 1950's nightmare. 1 star.

Wow! I was surprised at how good this movie was! I'd watch it again!!
smithduke22 December 2017
Caroline and Jack are a married couple who have gone opposite ways regarding their marriage. Caroline is hard-working, and Jack has lost his zest for work and life in general. Still, Jack's love for Caroline has never wavered. Caroline on the other hand, sick of Jack's slovenly ways and video game obsession, can't take it any longer and decides to file for divorce. On her way the attorney's office, she is hit by a car and ends up having retrograde amnesia. She can't remember Jack, her parents, or her friends and even what flavor of ice cream she likes.

This movie had quite a bit of drama mixed in with the tender and loving moments. Just when you think you can predict what will happen next, it will surprise you. I found the entire story quite realistic.

Jack's character is loving, kind, and caring while pre-amnesia Caroline was angry, driven, and judgemental. Post-amnesia, she realizes what kind of person she indeed is.

The two main actors had excellent chemistry, and I enjoyed the others as well, except for Charlene Tilton. I just didn't feel she fit the part of Caroline's mother.

Mostly just infuriating to watch
clargaespada27 December 2021
A woman gets hit by a car, has amnesia, and forgets she was about to divorce her do-nothing, slacker of a husband and forgets she runs a successful event-planning company. Of course all her loved ones lie to her so she doesn't remember all these distressing details. And the viewer is somehow supposed to feel that all this deception ultimately leads her to some grand revelation.

It's pretty insulting, really. Just skip this one.

Filled with lying! Absolutely infuriating
ukheather15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the most infuriating film I've ever seen!

The film is just the entire cast lying to the lead character for the entire film, which included her parents, family, husband, best friend, husband, and even the lead character herself!

They all lie to the lead character and everyone thinks this is totally fine! All because she was busy with work so didn't get time for people, so that means it's fine to lie to her, gaslight her, make her forget she was getting divorced, and make her think she's unemployed rather than the truth that she owns her own company!

And then after it all comes out, he lies yet again!

Infuriating!

Normal people would tell her, but these people think that's fine.

She even forgives him for the constant lies and stays with him!

It's baffling!

I was distracted through most of this movie by Caroline's eyelashes
gfinkelhoffer-4502614 December 2021
Not sure why this bugged me so much, but from the very first scenes her crooked false eyelashes annoyed me. Even more than her man-child slacker husband.

Horrible movie!

One of millions...

The only reason I am giving this picture two stars is because I could not finish it. There may have been potential in the rest, I would not know. A pity star.

If you enjoy christmas pictures, choose something else. If you enjoy the amnesia plot , watch Overboard or The Vow.

2ND CHANCE AT LOVE
mmthos29 August 2021
My high school creative writing teacher told us that amnesia is the lamest, most overused plot device there is, and that's the whole basis of this plot. If you can get past that, here it's an opportunity for new beginnings in a troubled young marriage, nothing new either, but for those who can't get enough of happy endings after 90 minutes of what amounts to do-it-yourselves couples therapy, this should do it well enough.

Standard.

Very good!!!
ssimeonidou18 January 2021
I really liked this film! The casting was very good. The leading couple had chemistry, good acting and realism. Especially Tilky Jones was very sweet, charming and deliver beautifully the emotions of his role. The movie showed "the two sides of the coin" of a couple living the problems of their marriage with the insecurities, fears and doubts that are involved. She is taking life too seriously, micromanaging everything, focusing in her job and profecional success with the result to cut out her beloved people, judging them for their mistakes without taking a good look to the causes... He, on the other hand is taking life too light, creating a mess in their house due to his profecional troubles, not sharing his insecurities with his wife out of fear in losing her... But a genuine look in ourelves, true love and honest conversation can solve almost everything! In this case with the help and loving interference of family and friends they find their way to love each other all over again.
