"Stranger Things Snapchat Remake" is the title of this American short film and you can easily see right away this is a spoof of the successful award-winning show Stranger Things. The director and writer too I think (and also briefly actor) here is Mike Platco who has his own website and own Youtube channel where he uploaded his effort. He also has a similar thingey on Jurassic Park there, but let us look at this one we have here for now. Okay first of all it needs to be said that at over half an hour this is pretty long, way longer than these spoof videos usually are that frequently stay under the 10-minute-mark. Comfortably even at times. So a bit of a bold project we got here. But not a successful one. If there is anything positive I can say here then that it has some guilty pleasure moments, but even from that perspective it simply isn't good enough. The acting and script/story are just too weak and the references to the real show are not creative enough either I would say. Platco is clearly trying to parodize things while still getting in a personal touch. He is not successful. These days not taking itself seriously is simply not enough anymore to cut the cake for a film, especially if the creative componant is relatively weak anyway with this probably not even being seen let alone existing if the show it is about was never made. Still the brand in the title raised its popularity a but, but I myself am not a fan here. I have seen worse fan-made movies admittedly, but all in all this one here is not good enough for a positive recommendation. The retro touch in terms of clothes, but also the locations are kinda nice at times. And there is of course also mostly kids in here like with Stranger Things, but when there are grown-ups like the hungry cop early on it is just as forgettable. Watch something else instead.
