Amazing Pilot!
KrazyJoke8 January 2018
This pilot has to be one of the greatest pilot ever made ! It's quick, funny, it introduces us to the characters, the acting is really good and it makes us see what the show is really about ! We already see the drama between our two main characters and their intention in a compltly genuine episode that introduces it all!

Omgg this showwwww

Dark comedy has not seen the likes of "The End Of The F***ing World". So very very dark and funny. I was instantly hooked and even after completing the first episode I have no idea where it's going. These two characters are so unlike anything I've seen before. The juxtaposition of Alyssa's impulsive but trusting thought process with James' preoccupation with murdering her is completely insane. And, it works. Strong performances and quirky writing abound. I also enjoyed the funny jabs at the US. Looking forward to more!

Great Start, Room to Grow

This first episode did a great job establishing the two main characters. There's a good deal of foreshadowing here and novel, conflicting interests that should drive the tension for the rest of the series. Good deal of sly dark humour in the near-perfectly-written script and all the intentions are pulled out well by the actors and camerawork. Even though there's no big classic yet I can tell I'm gonna love the Soundtrack from the deft use of music in the opener. The space is a little quiet at times, but good production details do allow that to sink in. Wish the male lead was more multidimensional but room to flesh him out over the season which I'm looking forward to. Great Start, Room to Grow

Murder: a teenager problem
AvionPrince166 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I need to say that the short is pretty interesting . We know the man who is maybe a killer from his childhood : he killed only animals but now he wants to kill his new girlfriend. And we have the girlfriend who become in love of the man . So pretty weird relationship : one is in love and another one want just to kill. At the end , they escape and stole the car . I mean the episode was short but really interesting : i enjoyed the point of view of each teenager and how they faced to some problems . Nice episode anyway :good for the nest episodes.

a wonderful introduction to what so far seems to be a brilliant black comedy
framptonhollis20 January 2018
Despite it not at first seeming like my tendency, I am often attracted and attatched to stories with romantic themes. I am also a bigger than big fan of pitch black humor, and on both these fronts this entertaining and funny pilot succeeds admirably. The script is well written and witty, and its execution borders on being flawless. The two leads turn in very subtlety humorous and humane performances, the directing, camerawork, and editing are for the most part superb, and even the soundtrack is really awesome! I am excited to see where this series may take us.

Just can't imagine how they can produce something like this with low budget and with just two teenagers who never handled a big role I'm just shocked but in a good way

Decent Enough introduction to the two leads
Ireviewstuff_exe10 August 2022
The first episode of this series I found mostly enjoyable. It was paced well and it succeeded at its attempts to make me laugh. The one gripe with this episode is that the acting and delivery of some lines were a bit boring at times. For the most part, a decent start to the series.

Amazing start fon an amazing serie
crippamatteo-3707228 March 2020
The opening episode of a series that I will end up loving. I immediately appreciated that we are told the thoughts of the various characters. These were introduced well by showing us their views, their psyche and their problems. Very beautifull.

Funny and awkward
mafefabricio19 January 2019
This first episode is full of dry humor, and the characters are kind of funny. I loved the use of the soundtrack. It was a good choice to mix "old songs" with a modern story.

Why do i care about these 2? they dont seem interesting at all based on this episode. i also dont understand how this comedy? even dark comedy. i didnt see anything in this episode that even seemed like it was trying to be funny, let alone interesting tbh. this episode just dosnt make sense. and i dont mean the storyline made no sense, i mean that i just dont understand why i should care about anything thats gunna happen? why should i like either of these characters? am i not supposed to like them? there was just nothing there to make me feel anything at all about them.

A Psychopath Meets A Spirited Girl
richardsh-1304631 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Plot Breakdown:

James is a 17-year-old school student who loves skateboarding and killing animals in his spare time, he realises early on in life that he's a psychopath and murders his neighbours cat..

He has fantasies of killing "something bigger" than an animal and starts to look for a suitable candidate to kill to fulfill his dark urges, new student Alyssa is troubled at home and lashes out at those around her and becomes drawn to James.

She starts "dating" James awkwardly making out with him and they begin to get closer, James starts to set up his plan to murder her when they're alone and intimate but he never gets the chance to because they steal his dads car and drive off on a road trip.

Review:

Scrolling through Netflix I thought to myself "let's watch something during this isolation period" and came across this show, The End Of The Fucking World surprised me in a good way because it had comedy aimed at adults and teens dealing with subject matter only the Showtime series Dexter has tackled, It had him dispatching evil people branding his signature knife and plastic wrap showing him to be an old pro at killing instead of James who wants to kill this innocent troubled girl with a knife and unspecified plan of disposal unprepared and full of raw emotions.

I thought the flashes of James' dark urges (killing Alyssa and seeing her bloody body on the floor among other things) to be an interesting way of conveying that James is not a normal human being fantasizing about committing murders in his head.

The actors were phenomenal! James (Alex Lawther) and Alyssa (Jessica Barden) have great chemistry together and I enjoyed Jessica's portrayal of Alyssa immensely because I loved the attitude she brought to the role when she went on her little outbursts showing that she is deeply troubled and broken.

I found Alex's portrayal of James to be overwhelmingly uncomfortable and unsettling at times and when I saw him fantasizing about killing I could feel the desire ooze onto the screen, he acted brilliantly showing that with limited psychopathic emotions he could convey a lot with body language and the like.

The soundtrack made it feel like an Indie film and I loved the way it was shot because it felt like it could be in America or England, I found it intriguing that I've never seen that part of England before because I enjoyed the scenery and colour palette immensely. It was bright and vibrant and even the blood was strikingly bright red commanding attention to the eye.

Even though it may seem to be cliche that James has all the textbook psychopathic traits a person could have it's plausible a person can have these traits in real life, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that this young man would try killing a human being to see what it feels like because of their dark urges.

I highly recommend this first episode because it's quirky, funny and dark full of teen angst and awkwardness. It's the 21st century teen comedy the world needs in this uncertain climate.

Really good series...
wbafanclub1216 November 2019
I only ended up watching this due to endless adverts of it being force fed through my eyeballs. Then one night, with nothing else I fancied on my 100+ channels and numerous on demand, I decided to gamble 20minutes of my life on the show. It's hard to say what age group this programme is aimed at. I would say older teens, young adults but even in my 40s I found it entertaining. The comedy is very dry. It is also a sharp, quick moving, up to date version of bonnie and clyde. Also a reminder to me how awkward being a teenager could be. I found myself able to relate to the characters (as I was when I was there age). The storyline, whilst far fetched , also manages to keep it real with the help of the main characters, and shows how random things happen when you are that age. Luckily I only started watching it at the end of season 2 so had a pleasant few hours of binge watch. It is not a series you can start watching it half way through, as you have to grow with the main characters, which both actors play perfectly.
