The storytelling is good, at times even great with lots of details about the time and a walking tour of some places. There is, however, a style of filming that involves a lot of close-ups, a lot of blurred scenes, and a lot of effects to make shots look like miniatures. As an example, in episode 3 he takes us to the gallows at Tyburn...or at least he tells us he does. What we get is an extreme close-up of his face and a blurred planning. We never actually see it. It was most evident in episode 3 and often got annoying. That said, still a great series. Some of the details are uncomfortably real which is part of what makes it interesting.
