Strange yet lacking David Lynch short
Red-Barracuda27 April 2018
Out Yonder is yet another strange experimental short feature from David Lynch's latter period. This one qualifies as a comedy with a couple of characters - played by Lynch and his son - who for some reason have helium pitched voices. They sit outside and talk to each other in a most bizarre manner and later they come into contact with a local giant called The Neighbor Boy, who we only see via the shadow he casts on our two protagonists. In order to get anything out of this film you really need to be in tune with Lynch's bizarre sense of humour. Its resolutely lo-fi in aesthetics and production values and truthfully only is of interest on account of Lynch himself being the director. I am a massive fan of his feature film output myself but his latter period shorts leave me pretty cold and this one is no different. Of very limited interest overall.
