When the cover is better than the original, just my thought. "People Get Ready" on the hands of Jeff Beck & Rod Stewart sounded something magical, beautiful and
a lot less sad than some previous versions. Part of the enchantment comes from Beck's inspired guitar solos that permeates the moments when Stewart isn't singing, and
Rod doesn't disappoint either. The video is a happy collaboration between both artists and the idea presents them as long-time friends who don't see each other for a
long time and after one exchange of letter one goes find the other.
Although there are some corny moments coming from Stewart, the scenarios revolving Beck playing his guitar whether inside of a train wagon or playing alongside people and children he meets on the way on several country towns are quite enjoyable to watch. The sepia-like cinematography evokes a feeling of distance, loneliness that slightly changes from moment to moment, reflecting the notion the two best friends are close to a reunion.
I have good memories of this song for a period when I didn't like all that much. I only listened to initial chords then when "People Get Ready..." words come along I'd turn of. But one night after watching the video I was impressed with it and became a fan ever since. It's gathering of small beautiful moments make the experience something worth seeing and ultimately turns into a very good video. There's plenty of soul in it, musically and visually. 9/10.
