I cannot believe I sat through this tripe, I guess I kept hoping it would improve, it only gets worse. I am usually really nice to low-budget films, but this one is 45 minutes too long, it would have made a fine 70-80 minute film, this premise should not have been stretched so far. I liked the idea of the the anthropologist and being fascinated with native American culture, and the whole thing with burial mounds is a rich premise and is a great plot point that has been used in a few other films such as the mediocre "New Daughter". The irritating "love" triangle between the two women and one of their obsessed former lovers is irritating and serves no purpose. Cut that whole bit out and the movie would lose the necessary 1/2 to make this slightly more of reasonable length for the story.
I'm usually pretty forgiving, but this is truly an obnoxious movie. How can you claim to be inclusive and not hateful when you are totally vilifying another group of people? I might be okay with that to be honest, if it wasn't for the overly preachy dialog about how hard these women have it, which they obviously don't since they can afford to go on a fun vacation, this movie would be all right. Rather than have a message that people can relate to, it simply just bashes you over the head and pushes it's screed until you comply. The camera work and sound are the only decent aspects, but that isn't going to somehow make the script any less awful and the acting any less horrendous. The ending is simply a reinforcement of the obvious prejudices of the film maker(who also wrote the scipt), and it is predictable in the worst way possible.
I do remember this film, simply because it is really really bad. The filmography and sound or decent, but outside of the the acting and script are just jaw-droppingly bad. If you enjoy thus fine, but don't go into this thinking it will be scary or fun. Expect a hr long screed about what an awful person you are if you do not toe the left-wing line and agenda. If that was not it's message, it failed so miserably, there is not hope. This director is capable, but he needs to stop writing or picking shoddy scripts, I have watched one of his other films and it does not fare much better.
