It's loosely based on true cases and the life of Brigadier Piet Van der Bijl. It's better than most international crime series I've seen. Watching it for a second time from the start now. Loving every minute! Can't wait for a third season.

Excellent crime thriller

Very good crime series based on the some of one of South Africa's top detectives Brigadier Piet Byleveld. Acting is good and attention to details is also exceptional. It's not a Action packed series as some of Hollywood's series, but more a drama suspenseful thriller and it will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is nice to see a South African series which is original rather than a copy of an international movie/series. Definitely worth the watch. Waldemar Schultz, Lika Berning, Eric Nobbs, and Tertius Meintjes were excellent choices for the lead roles.
The story also becomes more interesting when one reads the book Byleveld: Dossier of a serial sleuth as one can then see all the similarities that they used in the series from Brigadier Byleveld, like the iconic Grandpa and Coke and the constant smoking.
