The only mystery is why this was made and released Warning: Spoilers
If you take a look at the rating and other reviews here on imdb, you will know exactly what to expect from this animated short film "Strawinsky and the Mysterious House". Trash. It is one of these films that you can categorize as so bad that they are actually good and funny again, but I just cannot jump the bandwagon and join in with my fellow reviewers. These 27 minutes from 2012 are utter garbage from start to finish from every perspective really. The voice acting is tolerable at times maybe, but the story is as bland as it gets, the animation is painful to look at and the music is nothing that will get the smallest toddler in the groove. Also no comment on the wobbling going on with Strawinsky from start to finish. It may be a good thing that director Hutter and writer Franke have never worked on another film before that and unless tehy really step things up, I hope this will be their last project to. It is a fairly harmless little movie, but it lacks sweetness and charm in characters altogether. Really glad they did not go for full feature territory here, so that this was over quickly. It's not just the character animation that is extremely underwhelming, it is also all the sets and locations. One of the worst of 2012 without a doubt and it's especially painful that watching this one, it feels as if the makers did not realize how they lack vision entirely and just when one scene seems in a way where they could not top it anymore in a more negative way, the next scene proves you wrong. And so on. Highly not recommended.

The yeast of thoughts and minds
williemangago14 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Well, at least the title of this movie is alright.

Story: So apparently this is a Narnia inspired plot, or perhaps even a religious satire of it. But wait, wasn't Narnia itself made around Christian parallels? It's pretty weird, and made to teach us how corrupting books can be if they aren't the bible. Which is extra weird because it would seem you'd need to read the Narnia books to understand. Unless you watched the movie adaptation instead. Honestly, the whole movie here is really strange. All the books are actually rats, there's a talking string instrument with hooves and moles look more like dogs. I'm pretty sure David doesn't like books just because he isn't very good at writing. But I actually recommend this film if you're up for a surreal bad plot. You'll have plenty of it to go around in this movie 2/5 Animation: If I didn't know any better, I'd assume this was yet another film by the Gaithers animation studio. This looks eerily similar to Gaither's Pond or Dorbees, and if you've seen either of those cartoons, you'll have a feel for how uncanny this can be. Most of the characters are missing teeth, and like I said, Strawinsky looks more like a dog or an otter than he does a mole, like the film says he is supposed to be. Most uncanny of all, though, is the notorious... Globgogabdalab? Whatever it's spelled... He looks like a giant mound of putty, one that can shapeshift into a naked bird. Also, he's naked, which makes me feel quite uncomfortable. I think my favorite design is the rat king, who with a bit of refining could make for a better character in a better movie. However, the setting ranges in quality from freeware mobile game to Life of Black Tiger. And this was made in 2012, the same year as Wreck it Ralph. It's pretty bad, simply enough. 1/5 Characters: Cutting to the chase on this aspect, the side characters and villains are more intriguing than the main cast. All that needs to be said about Strawinsky and his animal friends is that they are the typical god-loving adventurers. Oh, and one of them is named Elbo cause the parents seemed to like messing with em. The rest of the inhabitants of the so-called Mysterious House. There's a talking cello whose dialogue sounds like innuendo and she seems to like drinking tea. There's a small troll who seems to be frustrated with Strawinsky and the others trespassing on the house, which seems fair enough. And then there's the glogdolabdagab or whatever who was originally an elf who turned into the taffy monster I mentioned before. As odd as he is, he's also probably the most memorable part of the film, both for his design and for his friendly personality, as well as the ability to sink into the pages of books and come out bigger... pardon the word choice. A couple other characters include the Scarlet Queen who acts as the Jesus-like voice of reason, then the rat king is revealed to be the corrupting force, much like Satan is depicted as. As simplistic as most of them are, they do have some decent voice acting, like with Eric Clayton's smooth and menacing performance as the king and Tony Halstead's admirable ability to pronounce that weird thing's name. If I had to pick the strangest thing about the cast is that the queen and king characters don't get an introduction like they should, probably because the film is based on the third part of the Strawinsky radio show. 2/5 Songs: Some of these tunes are strangely pretty catchy. Strawinsky himself is quite possibly the least impressive of these singers, partially due to how flat it comes across. That is kind of unfortunate for him since he's supposed to be the hero. But when your're competing against a scottish troll singing about the mysterious house of lies, a rat king with a chilling singing voice and the gwabogabogadolab freestyle rapping about how tremendous he is, you wouldn't stand much of a chance against them. The songs aren't quite the same level of quality as Friend Like Me (apparently the songs were inspired by Disney Renaissance films), but they are pretty neat in themselves for what they are. At least this film has something else in common with Dorbees. 4/5 Sadly, no amount of musical talent can save what is a preachy story with a confusing aesop, sub par animation and mostly flat characters. It could be a film to consider if you're in the mood for a bad film with some entertaining qualities, but despite being half an hour long, it can drag on at points, coming in at 2 rat books out of 5.

My name is Willie and I have to wonder if Loway and Mr. Hand were a fan of the blob thing as he appeared in two of their (now deleted) videos.

3 Stars for Quality, 7 for Entertainment

"Starwinsky and the Mystery House" sucks. It's animation is terrible, the voice acting is plain bad, and the story just isn't good. It's only saving grace is the songs, which are catchier than they have any right to be. Watching this movie, however, is a different experience entirely. The Glubglogabgalab is amazing, and all the films bad qualities make it a fun watch.

Terrible animation and a terrible message
benjaminweber25 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is a short film about how books are bad. Well, not all books, but there is a very clear anti-book sentiment. The plot involves three small animals being captivated by books, and having to be freed by the great Elohim, one of the names given to God in the Bible. It is stated that reading too much will turn the characters into a fat, ugly, bulbous creature (the globglogabgalab was apparently once a beautiful forest elf), and it is stated numerous times that you have to be careful what you read, and that reading can be dangerous. The only character that embraces reading (technically not just reading, but fully immersing oneself in the world of a book and trying to understand it) is depicted as misled and lost, until they are rescued.

If you are considering getting this for a small child, be careful. It's core message is to skeptical of books, even though books not only teach children to develop an imagination by letting the reader visualise the described world themselves, but remain the most accessible way for people to tell their own stories. In fact, better yet, get them a book instead. A good book they will remember and treasure when they're older, and that reminds them of the wonder of reading, like Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales.

An awefully animated, anti intellectual piece of religious propagander that I would not recommend for anyone, even as a joke. To top it off the creator misuses copyright law to censor critics of his sorry excuse for a film. Avoid!

One Of The Worst Films In Existance
taerzisae11 April 2018
Honestly, this movie is dreadful. It was an amateur effort spreading lies about how books are evil. Granted, only an illiterate imbecile thinks books are evil, so it's fair that this movie would look like it was made by an imbecile, blinded by heretic worship.

The animation is... amateur. There seem to be sexual references in what is supposed to be a movie about God. And overall, the only reason this movie has any good reviews is because the good reviews come from family and friends of the creator who are too spineless to tell him the truth.

Good effort from a tiny studio
lzimpfer14 June 2019
Wow, some of you are being really harsh. Upon research, I discovered this movie had a budget of about $10,000 USD and was mostly created by one person over the course of five years. I don't think it's fair to put it under the same microscope as a blockbuster studio release with a 100M budget. Considering the budget, the animation is done quite well. Lots of attention was put into the settings and background. The character expressions and movements could use some improvement. I think it would have been less noticeable if all the characters were animals instead of adding humans, which are much harder to animate. The hand drawn pictures included in the credits were good and expressive. I thought the songs were mostly good, some actually funny. The voice acting was also decent. Usually I don't notice voice acting on first viewing unless it's really bad, and they were engaging. If anything, I noticed that the facial expressions and movements of the characters didn't quite match the level of enthusiasm of the voice. So well done to them. In my opinion, the narrator is the worst part of the film. He didn't do a terrible job, I just don't think a movie needs a person describing scenes like a book. Instead of a narrator telling us a room has spider webs and smells dusty, why not show lots of spider webs, and have a character cough and say, "gross, this room is covered in dust!" This is a movie; show, don't tell. It took me right out of the story every time the narrator explained what I should be watching and seeing. He should have been used sparingly, if not cut out all together. Overall, I think it was a good effort from an amateur studio. With a little work, a small team and some money, I think this studio could make a really good film. Don't give up! There IS some real talent here.

Absolutely Terribl!
charleshflexon16 January 2024
It was so so so terrible I could not believe my eyes. None of it was great and all of it was terrible. I hated it so much it made my eyes want to vomit. Never ever watch this movie! You will hate it too! It is weird and stupid and cannot be any worse. I absolutely love the gobgoglgabulab but this movie was terrible. If I were to give this rating out of 10 it would be 0 but I had to put 1 Never watch movies! I hate movies!

I am not sure as we haven't gotten a call yet to say our caravan is ready for the wedding on the police station and the clues all lead to the country Portugal if I could of called in.

A Sensual and Enlightening Movie About Scientology
ka-4054026 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Never before have I seen such beautiful animation brought to the screen. Between the underlying message that Scientology is the one true religion, and the truly wonderful image of the main character (the Globgogabgalab, who represents the Supreme Being), nothing about this movie is even remotely flawed. Before watching this film I thought Scientology was JUST some crazy cult, but now I know that it's a crazy cult AND the one true way to understand the universe. Strawinsky is depicted as a weak Judeo-Christian being guided to the truth by Globgogabgalab, who is enlightened and allknowing, and who goes on to save not only Strawinsky, but everyone else in the "Mysterious House" from the trappings of Judeo Christian thought, and lead them to the truth that L. Ron Hubbard showed us all. The spiritual message and correct treatment of Scientology make me EASILY recommend this movie to any family, as it will make them Much Better People.

AMAZING MOVIE THAT SHOWS THE POWER OF THE CULT OF CTHULHU
castanedaandrew-0278323 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I CANNOT BELIEVE THE PART WHEN STRAWINSKY AND HIS FRIENDS MEET JAKE PAUL WHO TURNS OUT TO BE THE (PLOT TWIST) GLOBGLOGABGALAB WHO ALSO TURNS OUT TO BE THE MYSTERIOUS BUT ALL POWERFUL LORD DARTH VADER HIMSELF. HE THEN DECIDED TO SHOW THEM TO THE LORD CTHULHU WHO OBLITERATED THEM FOR NOT BELIEVING IN BOOKS. I FEEL THAT ANY PERSON WHO DECIDES TO SHAME THIS AND MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS THE WORST MOVIE CREATED BY MANKIND SHOULD BE THROWN INTO THE DARK PITS OF GOD. ALL ANTI-CTHULHUS WILL DIE.

Splendid, Simply delicious
jack_greenall7 August 2018
I can't even begin to describe this masterpiece, truly mindblowing film. It combines the dark theme of sexual abuse in the catholic church splendidly with the humour of danny devito, and whilst this might be a difficult task to pull off the dark and humorous elements actually compliment eachother. I think some people don't enjoy this film because it takes a true intellect to appreciate the filmaking and cinematogrophy, for instance the globglogabgalab himself whilst it may come across initially as the embodiment of aristotles intial laws of motion, if you look deeper you actually find that he's supposed to embody that he is an absolute unit. I'm in awe at the size of this lad.

Enlightened me on the word of god
ryandavid-057342 April 2018
This was truly a masterpiece of a movie. The plot was truly invigorating, I found myself fully immersed in the movie by the end. My small child, Connor truly found this movie enlightening in the word of god, This movie made me research words of god and in the end turned me and my family to christianity, we are now attending church daily and having our small child Connor attend an afterschool church club, The 4 characters we are introduced to, including a small beaver by the name of Strawinsky, a rabbit by the name of Elbo, A turtle by the name of Clopstock and finally a mole by the name of Harald, each one of these characters truly had depth to them and their backstory, they used the words of god to defeat the common enemy, depicted as satan in this story, by the name of the Ratking, as he resents all words of god whereas the main character (Strawinsky) is depicted as the savior, most commonly known as jesus. And the scarlet queen is depicted as god in this situation as strawinsky called upon her to save his friends, much like jesus did, The globgogabgalab is a horrible being depicted as a henchman of satan of sorts, as he was once an angel (AKA Forest elf) turned evil he feeds of the thoughts of vile books which I can only assume are books about the antichrist and such other vile wastes of gods paper. the cello is also such a thing, it was given the chance to be its own master by the rat king, however after the cello joined the rat king she realised the mistake she had made. She became sad and lonely and was very remorseful, the scarlet queen was as forgiving as god was to those who sinned, as strawinsky said if you said what was on your mind to her she would forgive you. They did exactly that and she spared them. this is a legitimate review, I apologize for all these horrible sinners who make these "me mes" about your beautiful storytelling. truly a movie to live by if your a christian

Warning: Spoilers
This has to be one of the greatest films of all time. The portrayal of the Globglogabgalab is done perfectly and the plot is just so good. This film also gives good messages such as books can turn you into a fat blob if you read too many. This is the best movie I have seen in my life with a number of musicals and an assortment of animals and singing books, this film just can't be beaten.

Best movie in the history of films
julioregis27 April 2018
This movie left me breathless, I was gasping for air due to how amazing it is. Nothing can even come close to compare, I have shown it to all my friends, family, acquaintances, and they all agreed with me. Those that give bad reviews of this movie are inferior and do not understand the complexity of the film in question.

Insightful, Charming, and Riveting.
pullappally_g25 April 2019
When I first saw the trailer for Strawinsky and the Mysterious House, I was shocked. I had never imagined that a film could portray something so beautiful and tender. The characters are symbols of compassion love. The relationships and logic in this movie will show viewers the true morals of humanity. The Globglogabgalab was a symbol of faith, hope, and love. After viewing this movie, I dropped to my knees and cried. The Globglogabgalab had made me feel things I have never felt before. True happiness. I could watch this movie over and over again, and it would never get old. I would reccomend this for someone who has lost their ways and needs guidance.

Tony Halsteads preformance as the Globglogabgalab is increbible, he really makes you believe he's the Yeast of Thoughts and Minds. Great singer and belongs on The Voice. If you can't decide on what to watch, remember that Strawinsky and the Mysterious House is an option. All actors did an amazing job, the soundtrack is one of a kind, and the animation is breathtaking.

This is the best anime I have ever seen. I've seen many great anime like Shrek and The Emoji Movie but this tops them all. It's evocative storytelling and exquisite animation makes this anime so delicious, it should be in a museum.
