Count Yorga: An Appreciation by Kim Newman (2016)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Film critic and historian Kim Newman takes a look at the two COUNT YORGA films from AIP and the influence that they had on other vampire movies in this 33-minute featurette. If you're a fan of the two films in question then there's no doubt that you'll enjoy Newman's discussion of them because he does a wonderful job with the background stories on the making of the films as well as his own opinion on what made them so entertaining. Newman talks about the first film and how originally it was supposed to have been a softcore picture. He also talks about the casting of Robert Quarry and why he thinks the film became a hit. There are some nice stories told about the slew of vampire films that followed including some very interesting connections to BLACULA. Fans of COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE or THE RETURN OF COUNT YORGA will certainly enjoy this featurette and it's highly recommended.
