This episode may have been inspired by the real-life case of Barry and Honey Sherman, an affluent Toronto couple found hanging from the railings of their indoor pool in December of 2017. Initially thought to be a murder-suicide, police now say the couple were likely victims of a targeted double murder. As of February 2021, the case remains open.
Muskoka is a district municipality in Central Ontario, Canada. It was named after Mesqua Ukie, an Ojibwa chief of the 1850s who was well-liked by European Canadians. Wealthy families would conduct extended stays in Muskoka hotels or summer homes for weeks on end.
