See You Soon
bobcobb30110 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
An interesting episode that really tried to make us think there was a chance Pride might not survive, even if we knew there was zero chance of that happening.

Was it that memorable? No, but a break from the traditional NCIS episode rollout isn't such a bad idea.

Way below average

Warning: Spoilers
Oh, btw this is full of SPOILERS. ALERT. It's always difficult to try to build an episode on both sides of the lifeline in a police series but this attempt is a sorry excuse for it. And that for a high quality series as I see it. It starts with the apparent guide on the borderline of death who's there to find your way to the afterlife. You only have to take her hand, so she claims, to finalize your choice to die. But at the same time she acts like an advocate for the death side of the line by constantly try to convince him to let go. And when he finally takes her hand and she claims he made hos choice, implying its irreversible, he all of a sudden has to step into the light to finalize his decision. Uhh what? Yeh, my reaction to. Luckily he turned back for sake of his daughter. And then go back to the other characters, forced to lead the case and consequently woman hunt. Christopher is in charge, apparently only by common feelings because no direct orders are given. He gets insecure so his college, the one from CSI NY, talk in to him: your the boss now, act like and all that psycho jumbo. So he picks it up an business as usual, only one change to catch the shooter but it is high risk operation where they use Pride as bait. Nothing new there. Now the college turns 180 degrees around and starts complaining about the risk and pulls herself out of the plan and decide to go to the hospital to protect Pride. Who's the boss now?? I'm getting confused. But her choice is quit logical, surprising she is the only one thinking like that. So the ambulance set-up backfired, how surprising, which turns the shooter to the hospital. And all of this with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, where the 9 mm bullet didn't manage to penetrate 2 inch of skin. Remarkable physical strength. In the mean time, Pride took the guides hand, nurses fight to keep Pride alive, who is allready flatlined at that point. While they performing cpr and applying shocks, the medical examiner "comfort" the daughter by stating "he's gone now, there is nothing we can do". Again WHAT?? Is it so hard to wait the few minutes till a doctor pronounce his death?? Offcourse at last they bring him back, leaving the m.e. with a shoe in her mouth. Instead if turning towards Pride see turns the other way to his colleges surprisingly stating "they brought him back" like they don't know how to read a heart monitor. To make a long story short, TO LATE!!, avoid these unnecessary inconsistencies when you step into these paranormal areas, if not in general. Still a six for trying.

How are these writers employed?!
jollyskiem-315557 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I live NCIS NOLA and I live Pride - but this show doesn't make it easy. The first couple of seasons were great but this episode is one of the truely awful examples of how rubbish the script writing became in the second half of the series lifespan. I worked in healthcare for many years and I understand that real workings of hospitals aren't always as exciting as script writers need it to be . I also understand Scriptwriters may not have a great degree of medical knowledge. But, my God, it's so easy to find out the basics by a simple google search. A) pride would be amazingly lucky to make it to hospital after three point blank gunshots to the chest....but let's pretend it happened. B) Loretta at one point states both his lungs have collapsed yet he has no chest tubes in place to re-inflate them - until when they are loading him into the helicopter when 1 drain can be seen sitting at the same level as his chest....c) he would be in icu monitored 1:1, ventilated (definitely not just with nasal prong O2), and would have central lines and multiple iv lines....not just 1 peripheral iv line. 4) there is no way in hell Loretta and Rita could just remove his bed and wheel him away.....i mean, C'MON!! 5) the whole cpr thing. CPR is done on a flat surface. The bed lies flat and you jump on the bed and start pumping the chest. Not while they are sitting up. That's just the beginning - I could go on and on about the dream sequences and the general rubbish storyline. As I said at the beginning a lot of this just sloppy script writing. For the money they would be receiving, open an internet search engine and google what would happen if a person was shot once let alone 3 times in the chest and try to make it even a little realistic.

Somewhat predictable
pontiac-526 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While this is not generally a bad show, the actor who is executive producer in a life or death situation is not as drama inducing as it could be because you know there is no way he dies. I marked for spoiler, but come on.

The other problem with this episode is when Pride is in limbo, talking to "The Angel" all I could picture is they should have had Dean Stockwell play this role and keep calling Pride "Sam" and telling him to take the leap home. As a result I couldn't take it as seriously as intended.

Just when you think it can't get worse...
sncrane-7611217 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It does. Lol. Pride is an alien. Shot three (three and a half times? Somehow he had an exit wound on his lower back after getting shot three times in the chest) times, Sebastian tries to put pressure on an open wound with just his hand, Pride isn't given a transfusion, how the crud did this guy survive? The team concocts a scheme which requires him to be wheeled around the hospital and he flatlines. They do CPR and apply defibrillators while he's SITTING UP IN BED. Goodness a whole room of writers, an entire crew on set and no one said wait this isn't right. And airlifting him to a bigger hospital now that he's talking and making jokes, so stupid.

I would give it zero stars. An hour I'll never get back.

I am very tired of trained officers who empty a gun at close range and can't hit the target. And who does CPR with the head elevated? Good grief. I won't even get into the writing.

Continuing the Pride Slide
pranderson0630958 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I really like Scott Bakula and wish so much that he had better writers, producers, and executive producers.

I was truly hoping that this show could regain some of the class its first two seasons had. Then, it actually was s show about the New Orleans NCIS bureau solving cases. But no. Instead it is digging in on what began in Season 3 as "The Pride of NCIS". Season 4 became "NCIS Pride Obsession" how much more can we take of this over abundance of Pride?

How can the Team Members whose skills with firearms have been "never miss" even at moving/fleeing targets become worse than mine which are mostly "never hit" the side of a barn.

The silly stupid and even asinine dream sequences are so bad in this episode. This one episode needs to go to the SCFI channel. Nobody will ever believe the show's star will die in a season's first episode would they? No, so this is not really a spoiler - but just in case one might take that observation as one... If the producers/writers had that kind hutzpah the show might become interesting and not so painfully predictable and boring.

Awful Dream Sequences
bobocop-481-5328055 October 2018
It could have been so much better. But the ridiculous dream sequences were a facile sideshow taking attention from the action.

Who writes this?

Warning: Spoilers
Oh, that's right, the name is at the top of the page.

If it were me I would use a pseudonym.

It is all so predictable and stupid.

A few low-lights:

When the hit-woman goes to remove the bullet from her abdomen, it is easily found, as if it were just under her skin. And there is no large amount of blood pouring out after the bullet is removed.

When the waitress drives the truck into the ambulance, there is a cell phone in the truck so said hit-woman can watch. The intrepid good guys pick ip the phone, and rather than ending the call, announce they are headed back to the hospital, thus confirming, if it was not already known, that Pride was still at the hospital.

Also, how does our hit-woman, who is on the run, know the route of the ambulance in the first place?

Back at the hospital, why is Pride's name and room number on the whiteboard, given that there was a possibility of the hit-woman going after Pride?

Then there is the short period of time between the hit-woman shooting the two police officers, and knocking out Gregorio, Wade and Devereaux had time to not only move Pride in his bed out of his room, but far enough down the hall that they were not immediately visible.

I am still trying to decide about "The Angel" segments. While it was nice to see more of actress Amy Rutberg, the pieces just felt like padding to stretch out a thin main story.

Side note - when the hit-woman is hit by the car and is laying on the ground, I am pretty sure that is the stunt-woman, up until the point where she picks up the gun and shoots the driver.

What is it about the third series in their respective universes that they have such problems with the writing? NCIS: New Orleans is to NCIS what CSI: Miami was to CSI.

Is it the humidity?

Addendum - it appears that most of those who bother to read these reviews do not like the negative reviews of this episode.

Sorry, but it is because most of the writing for this show is so much better than this episode that I bothered to write this review.

I just hate lazy, by-the-numbers writing, like what was done with the attack on the decoy ambulance, and at the hospital that followed.

Fortunately, so far the rest of the episodes of this season have been much better.

I particularly liked the most recent, "Sheepdog", both for the writing and the the actresses involved.

OMG why can't they shoot.
simonhi1 October 2018
The realism of the shooting is appalling. Real police and federal agents are all properly trained to shoot weapons and have to pass regular tests.

All of the officers and agents couldn't pass the test if they tried!
