Solid Mystery with Lots of Humor
GunnersMate21 January 2019
The Spy Who Loved Murdoch starts off with the Murdoch Mysteries recurring spy character Terrance and an immediate murder to solve. The episode is quick moving, interesting, and very very funny. We are treated to Murdoch's goatee'd impersonation of the murdered diplomat and his fluent French to aid him is solving the crime and saving the world. Julia is delightfullly agitated and somewhat jealous through much of the episode which contributes to the fun. In a pleasant subplot, George invents the stay at home vacation and helps the son of a new tenant at his boarding house with an investigation of sorts. As usual, Crabtree is charming (though the story does little to aid the advancement of the main plot) and enjoyable. Twelve seasons into a series and The Spy Who Loved Murdoch is a solid mystery with plenty of both character and situational comedy. A terrific way to spend an hour. Enjoy.

Have fun.

Ok, most of Murdoch Mysteries episodes are intrinsically serious, even when they are laced with humor, historical figures cameos and running gags. This is not one of the cases. The premise is quite nonsensical (Which often happens in the show with spies are involved. You have rockets, high-speed trains, and a lot of other things) and I am pretty sure no political negotiations are done as shown here.

BUT, if you are in the mood of suspend your disbelief and just have fun, the way you would do with a James Bond story for instance, you will probably enjoy it. I did it, I had a smile most of the time while watchng. I've seen this story )pr a similar one) done several times in different shows but I think this was done quite well in the context of this show.

A little rant

I am sorry, but bare with me for a little bit. I understand, that it's just an entertainment TV show, so it won't influence the rating I give it but speaking from the point of historical fidelity, a russian ambassador would rather speak french to a french ambassador. Most Russian nobles, especially those close to the royal line, were brought up by french nannies and communicated in french, they considered russian to be a plebian language, and knew french much better than russian.
