The horror TV series Z Nation was produced by The Asylum (a company best known for the Sharknado franchise and mockbusters) and aired on Syfy for five seasons, running for a total of 68 episodes from September 12, 2014 to December 28, 2018. After that show wrapped up, a prequel series called Black Summer ran for two seasons (released in 2019 and 2021) on the Netflix streaming service. If you’ve been wondering when Black Summer is going to return for a third season… well, it looks like it’s not going to, because the folks at What’s on Netflix have confirmed that Netflix quietly “ghost cancelled” the show. But a new post on The Asylum’s X account indicates that Z Nation might be getting a revival! The post promises that a big announcement is coming soon…

It was back in 2018 that Syfy pulled the plug on The Asylum-produced zombie series “Z Nation,” ending the show after five seasons. But it seems “Z Nation” might be coming back…
The Asylum took to Twitter last night to tweet out a graphic promising a “major announcement soon” from the world of “Z Nation,” noting that the show’s “brief break” is almost over.
Created by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler, “Z Nation” was originally launched in 2014, with 68 total episodes airing across the five seasons that came to an end back in 2018.
Syfy’s “Z Nation,” the show’s Wikipedia page reminds, “begins three years into a zombie apocalypse caused by a virus that has already killed most humans. The series revolves around the travels of a small group of survivors being led through the apocalypse.”

Mekhi Phifer also stars as Grillo’s only ally with Durmot Mulroney as a crime boss and Scott Adkins making a special appearance as Grillo’s former brother-in-arms.
The movie also stars Jaime King as Ridgeway, who is a police detective who is seemingly pulling all the strings behind it all, but is there more that she’s hiding? Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures wanted to move quickly on Scream 7… then the version of the film they wanted to move quickly on crumbled piece by piece. Scream (2022) and Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are finishing work on their Universal Monsters movie Abigail (formerly known as Dracula’s Daughter), so with returning writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick working on the script, the companies hired Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon to direct the film and started reaching out to actors. Jenna Ortega allegedly wanted a substantial pay raise to reprise the role of Tara Carpenter… and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. So Ortega was out, but Melissa Barrera was on board to come back as Tara’s sister Samantha. Until she was fired from...

The intense zombie series “Black Summer” returned to Netflix for its second season on June 17, 2021, but it’s now been nearly three years since we last heard a peep from the series.
So what’s the deal? Is “Black Summer” Season 3 ever going to bite its way onto Netflix? Well, a report from What’s on Netflix this week suggests the series has been cancelled.
The site reports, “Black Summer was expected to have been ghost-canceled last year, but finally, we’ve got confirmation that the series won’t be returning for a third outing on Netflix.”
This news comes as no big surprise, as series creator John Hyams (Sick) had responded to a tweet back in April 2023 with a simple “Sadly, nah,” when asked if “Black Summer” Season 3 was ever going to happen. It seems the final nail has now been hammered in.

A New Year is just around the corner, and Netflix’s upcoming roster of Original titles includes over 100 returning shows that will be back for new seasons. Some Netflix shows remain unclear on whether they’ll ever return, and in the case of the below, we suspect they’ve all been quietly canceled.
For these shows, we refer to them as ghost canceled. This means they’ve been effectively canceled behind the scenes but haven’t been publicly announced. These announcements are either because Netflix won’t confirm or nobody behind the show publicly announced the cancelation.
As always, cancelations are due to a number of reasons. With a few of these, it’ll be purely down to the length of time since the last season premiered, and then you’ve got the usual issues of performance.

Gear up for a new season of Amazon’s breakout action hit Reacher, which is based on the popular novels by Lee Child that served as the basis for Tom Cruise’s attempted franchise, Jack Reacher. Although Cruise’s film adaptation was able to capitalize with the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Prime Video’s Reacher series aimed to stick closer to the novels and presents a new case for each season. For example, major characters from season one, like Roscoe and Oscar Finlay, will not play prominent roles in this season. Prime Video has just released the teaser for tomorrow’s premiere for the trailer to season 2 of the Alan Ritchson-starring drama.
According to ScreenRant, “Reacher season 2 will be based on Child’s book Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in the ongoing series. In the book, Reacher is contacted by someone from his former military unit,...

Generally speaking, TV is a less frightening medium than film. (Broadcast news notwithstanding.) Part of that’s the serialized nature of the format; it can be difficult to get really scared wondering whether Scully and Mulder will make it out of any given “X-Files” nightmare when there are 18 or so installments left in the season and you know the show can’t go on without its star characters. It doesn’t help matters that network standards have also kept horror TV decidedly tamer than anything found in R-rated horror efforts for decades; you just can’t put a Rob Zombie or Eli Roth joint anywhere.
And yet, in spite of those disadvantages, the genre has positively flourished on television as of late, with plenty of creepy limited series and spooky serialized dramas bringing terror to the small screen. Audiences curious about what caused this phenomenon can thank “American Horror Story,...

John Hyams, director of the very cool 2020 thriller Alone, recently teamed up with Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson to bring us the pandemic slasher Sick, which is set in April of 2020. Right after the world shut down due to Covid-19. The film was released through the Peacock streaming service back in January – and now it has also received a DVD and digital release! Scripted by Katelyn Crabb (who was credited as Williamson’s assistant on Scream 2022) from a story by Williamson, Sick takes place when the country locks down due to the pandemic and college student Parker and her best friend decide to quarantine at the family lake house alone – or so they think.

Kevin Williamson (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer) returned to the slasher movie arena with Sick, which premiered exclusively on Peacock on January 13, 2023.

What was once a promising landscape of streaming movies and television has now begun evolving and—some would argue—devolving. Companies are making cuts across the board including Netflix, who is notorious for cancelling their shows before they even have a chance to grow. Probably one of their best horror series to date has been “Black Summer,” a show that has shown immense promise but was at risk of cancellation from season one. The spiritual prequel to “Z Nation,” the John Hyams created horror drama proved to be a powerhouse of a zombie apocalypse series, spawning enough fan demand that it managed to earn a second season.
The well received second season came to an end on June 17, 2021. Since then it’s been virtual radio silence from Netflix and The Asylum on whether we’re ever going to see a third season, and much to fans’ horror, creator Hyams confirmed...

The first batch of winners at the 2023 Grammy Awards has been announced! The show is far from over, and Beyoncé has already become the most-awarded artist in the Recording Academy's history. Other performers are also cleaning up with exciting wins. This year's main event is, once again, hosted by Trevor Noah - who served as the Mc in 2021 and 2022 - who, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, teased that it'll be "the most star-studded room the Grammys has been for many, many years."

The 2023 Grammy Awards returned to the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday evening, and while Beyoncé made history by breaking the record for the most Grammy wins of all time, Harry Styles took home Album of the Year for his album “Harry’s House.” Styles also won Best Pop Vocal Album.
Beyoncé took home four awards, bringing her career total to 32 — enough to unseat composer Georg Solti as the winningest artist of all time. But this marks the fourth time in a row she’s lost Album of the Year. An astonishing fact for the Grammy record-holder.
Bonnie Raitt pulled an upset in Song of the Year for “Just Like That,” besting the likes of Lizzo, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
Lizzo, meanwhile, became the first Black woman to win Record of the Year since Whitney Houston in 1994 for “I Will Always Love You.” Lizzo won for “About Damn Time,” stressing the need for positive,...

This year is already off to an incredible start for the horror genre, with M3GAN scaring up big time profits in theaters and “The Last of Us” getting set to elevate horror television on HBO.
Much like last week, this second week of 2023 is similarly home to several exciting new horror releases, including the return of Kevin Williamson plus the arrival of a viral horror indie.
Not to mention, this Friday is the first Friday the 13th of 2023!
Here’s all the new horror releasing January 10 – January 13, 2023…
First up, from Ryûhei Kitamura, the director of Midnight Meat Train, comes Lionsgate’s The Price We Pay, which just debuted on VOD this Tuesday and comes to select theaters Friday.
Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Stephen Dorff (Blade) star in The Price We Pay, which looks like a genre fusion of an action-thriller and a slasher movie all in one crazy package.

The rock field is one of the most interesting to predict at the Grammys. Last year many criticized the awards for nominating mostly older acts at the expense of buzzier projects by younger artists. Luckily, this year features a more varied mix of contenders, ranging from debutantes to legends. That being said, only one can take each award home with them, so who will it be?
SEEGrammy predictions: Why Wet Leg might be the artists to beat in the alternative music field Best Rock Performance
This category has seven nominees, so let’s go through the process of elimination. Bryan Adams got no other nominations, and that is typically a factor to consider when you’re analyzing the passion voters have for each artist. Idles and the Black Keys did get nominated for Rock Album, but their absence from Best Rock Song probably means they also aren’t as strong as their fellow nominees.

When last year’s rock field nominations at the Grammys were announced, the reactions were mixed. A lot of people were happy that the field prioritized rock legends and “authentic” rock music over alternative-leaning. However, others were quite disappointed by the lack of high-profile — and mostly young — artists who were snubbed in favor of the veterans. To many, the rock nominations weren’t exciting without those interesting committee-inserted picks we typically got. The Recording Academy is always aware of criticism, so this year let’s consider who might ultimately get picked for prestigious nominations, young and old.

Horror and television have always been a bit of an awkward fit. What’s scary and what’s bingeable are often mutually exclusive. Horror requires that you suspend your disbelief and the longer it asks of your attention span, the higher the risk that the tension wanes.
Still, in the modern streaming era, there are plenty of horror TV shows that get the spooky job done. Gathered on Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV+, Paramount+, and more are some truly great streaming options to elevate the heart rate. Here we’ve compiled the very best of the best. Horror movies, like documentaries, have a knack for rolling the cameras whenever tragedy strikes. It didn’t come as much of a surprise when, mere months after Covid-19 locked most of the world down, we had one conceived and shot entirely over Zoom. It also wasn’t too much of a shock when cheap horror movies seizing on lockdowns and fears over a deadly virus started to pop up on VOD services. But it was only a matter of time before someone would make the first good entry about the pandemic, one that would find the perfect blend of executing genre thrills while seizing upon the moment to portray some of the insanity we’ve all dealt with for the past two years. That film has finally arrived with John Hyams’ Sick.
Fans of genre films probably know Hyams through his revival of the Universal Soldier franchise, TV shows like Z Nation and Black Summer,...

Sick marks Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer writer Kevin Williamson’s return to the slasher arena. Co-written by Williamson and Katelyn Crabb, Sick is directed by John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, “Black Summer”).
The Covid pandemic set thriller occurs during the early lockdown. It follows best friends Parker and Miri quarantined alone at an isolated family lake house. But they’re not alone for long.
The horror feature premiered earlier this week out of TIFF, where our own Joe Lipsett said in his review, “the never-ending attack, and the violence – often filmed in unflinching long takes – is mean and vicious.”
Bloody Disgusting spoke with leads Adlon and Million out of TIFF about working with Williamson and what it’s like shooting a visceral home invasion thriller.
Adlon distilled it down to a single name in horror when asked what it was about the script that enticed the actors.

Red Hot Chili Peppers were on hand at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday to receive the Global Icon Award, and with it delivered their first VMA performance in over two decades. During the band’s acceptance speech, drummer Chad Smith remembered his late colleague and friend, Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins.
“There’s another musical icon, global icon, and his name is my brother Taylor Hawkins,” Smith said after taking the mic from Anthony Kiedis. “I want to dedicate this to Taylor and his family. I love them, and I miss him every day.
