Sad story
phd_travel4 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Surprisingly involving. Wonder what happens to N Korean defectors who run over to China and S Korea? This is a not so happy story about some defectors. For reasons that will be revealed later. Things start off with a teen going to S Korea to see his mother who is there now. Can't they make phone calls from China to S Korea? He's resentful but things get interesting and quite sad when the back story is revealed from the mother and then the father's point of view.

Jang Dong Yoon is quite a versatile actor. The more distinctive faces like SJK or LMN or PBG would not have been right for a role like this. Lee Na Young looks quite downtrodden. The ending isn't too sad though after all that's happened before. But would have liked a bit more explanation about what happened during those 5 years.

Slow burn

This movie was quite good actually. The story was good, the actors and actress was good, setting was believeable and the cinematrography was excellent. Then why 7/10 star? Because of the dialogues. Either it's almost no dialogue at all, so that we had to read the facial expressions or body language of the actors, or it's felt forced.

The story was about a young man who searched out for his mother, who left him when he was 5. His father in a small village in Northern China, who was terminally ill, gave him clues about his mother whereabouts, and we followed his journey to find his mother in Seoul. Did he find what he looking for? Or even something that he wasn't prepare for?

Rainbow after strong storm

I like Jang Dong Yoon's works about Nokdu and If we were a season then find out this movie. It's such a good movie that I don't regret to watch it at all. It's based on true story that I was emotional when watching it. Storyline of course was well written and catchy till the end. Not simple story but not too complicated to get into the content. Main casts performed so well and were into characters. I didn't feel the story moved slowly and got less dialogue at all, on the other hands it's mystery to communicate to audiences by focusing on actors' facial expression at the beginning. When it came to the core of content, the dialogues gradually increased. Besides, I like the movie didn't focus on sexual, harassed and brutal scenes at all but it didn't reduce the beauty of the movie. Mother and Zhenchen were absolutely incredible acting. I gave this movie 9/10.
