The story opening up to a new phase
vuileharry16 November 2020
Typically one of those 'in between' episodes. Not big or ernormously spectacular, but just there to unfold new information and characters to progress us into the next chapter.

Still not boring in the least, but very interesting.

Less events, more lore!
AndreaCaranfil16 November 2020
It was a standard episode, not so much going on except for some key events that I really appreciated. I have to say that I found really interesting how they managed to add new information to the lore, especially to the witches traditions and other elements I don't want to spoil. It is an episode that prepares the ground for future developments, but still very enjoyable and never boring.

P.s: I found a little strange how the ending of the first episode connects to this new episode. I felt like I missed a scene. I am sure that other users experienced this. Maybe it was a relevant thing to the plot anyways, who knows!

The Cave
Prismark1026 November 2020
There was something compelling about the second episode of the second series.

Maybe Lyra's wonder in exploring our world. She is a fish out of water in Will's Oxford. It is similar to her Oxford but not quite the same and not as closeted. People appear to be freer.

This is borne out when Lyra talks to Dr Mary Malone a female scholar about Dust also known as Dark Matter. The first time where Lyra leaves another adult in astonishment.

The episode also introduces witches. With the treatment of Dr Martin Lanselius. It continues Pullman's anti religious aspects from his his novels.

Brilliant episode overall
princemathsscience-0534116 November 2020
The tension and the excitement of this beautifully-constructed multiverse was clearly present in the entirety of this episode. From the scenes containing the Magesterium to the scenes with Will and Lyra, this was all so good. Due credit has to be given to cinematography and the music teams, which did an amazing work on making this episode so brilliant. Season 2 has only had 2 episodes yet, but i love it too much already.

Not rushed at all ...

I understand that this show want to explore the taste of the adventure more than drama i get it but to reach that point we saw alot of things happened in one season without feel the wight of these things

This is for me the main issue with first season but here after two episode i felt that everything happened is slow and this is for me is the best thing cause we get to know about the magusterum , witches , dust maybe these little things dosent effect the experience but for me i need to know to care about the details

Another thing i love ruth wilson such an good actress even in small scenes you can see how she manged to make everyone fear her

The Questions
claudio_carvalho6 March 2023
Will and Lyra decide to travel to Will's Oxford, to seek out his lawyer and to find a scholar to help Lyra about the Dust. Soon she fins that the Jordan College does not exist in this world, but the alethiometer tells her to go to St. Peter. Will schedules with Lyra to meet each other at the Botanic Gardens at 5 PM. At the Magisterium, Dr Lanselius is sentenced to prison, and Ms. Coulter convinces MacPhail to authorize the bombing of the witches. Will meets his lawyer and she tells him that she cannot give the money from his fund to him. She suggests he visits his grandparents and asks them. Meanwhile, Lyra meets the physicist Mary Malone that shows her experiments with the Dust.

"The Cave" is a good episode of "His Dark Materials", with Will and Lyra in his city trying to resolve their issues. Will wants to know how his mother is and where is his father. Lyra decides to learn about the Dust in another world. Ms. Coulter, as usual, is a Machiavellian and manipulative villain. My vote is seven.

Misplaced in the schedules

Belongs on CBBC rather than prime-time on BBC 1.

It's certainly not deserving of the hype.
