Savvas D. Michael’s 2023 action-comedy Hitmen is an attempt to force humor into a gangster plot and hope that the audience finds the marital discontent between a bumbling couple hilarious. Unfortunately, it’s the opposite, and the lead characters, Luke (Daniel Caltagirone) and Lauren (Lois Brabin-Platt) Loveday, end up becoming an insufferable duo quite quickly. While Eric Roberts tries his best as the dangerous Michael Hero, a lot of other talent is simply wasted because of poor direction and a lack of clarity about what to do with the script. After adding a bunch of characters and with a massive runtime to fill, the director lets the story run amok, and soon enough, Hitmen becomes a jumbled mess. Here’s what happens in the flea market version of British gangster comedy that we’re used to seeing.

Twenty-five years on from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels the British gangster revival is still going strong. Case in point Hitmen, the new film from writer/director Savvas D. Michael who has already made several contributions to the genre including The Bezonians, Smoking Guns and Original Gangster.
Luke and Lauren are having marital issues. But that doesn’t mean she’s thrilled when Jackie starts hitting on her and when she mocks him, hitting her. This leads to a beating which in turn leads to Jackie’s death.
That would be bad enough, but Jackie’s grandfather Michael is a wealthy CEO with some rather shady connections. When they’re acquitted by reason of self-defense he puts a million-dollar contract on the couple.

Couple who kill a man for harassing them in the pub are pursued by an army of his father’s goons. A few sparky performances can’t redeem this cartoonish thriller
One might start to wonder if the career of British writer-director Savvas D Michael (previously responsible for The Bezonians) may be propelled, like the scam in The Producers, by a deliberate intention to make crap movies for an investment write-off. Anything is possible in the wild and wonderful world of the film business. The only other explanation is that Michael thinks the laddish, nihilistically violent and yet not in the slightest bit amusing quasi-cartoon world he’s created in Hitman is entertaining. Could anyone be that deluded?
Hitmen’s inciting incident occurs when a bickering couple, office administrator Luke (Daniel Caltagirone) and estate agent Lauren are harassed in a pub by a drunken visiting American (Max Lohan) who is trying pick up Lauren.

Exclusive: eOne is developing a TV series based on the Paranormal Hitmen comic books from writer Brett Murphy and illustrator Wilson Gandolpho.
Billed as Ghostbusters meets Pulp Fiction, Paranormal Hitmen is an irreverent action-comedy that follows Gene Rizzo and Devon Grace, two mob hitmen whose lives are turned upside down when they’re accidentally recruited into a secret government agency tasked with hunting down paranormal threats. These low-down criminals then face threats from the living And the dead—determined to control the world of the paranormal, while literally confronting ghosts of their pasts.
The first edition of Paranormal Hitmen was released by Behemoth Entertainment (the company recently acquired by Sumerian Records and Films) in January. (Behemoth owns rights to all titles in the series.) eOne will produce the TV series under the late Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner’s Altar Rock label, with Goldner and Josh Feldman exec producing alongside Murphy and Gandolpho.

Produced by Banijay’s Tiger Aspect, Hitmen is about two friends Fran (Perkins) and Jamie (Giedroyc) trying to make their way in the world with only each other to rely on. They also just happen to be assassins.
The second season, created and written by Joe Parham and Joe Markham, will see a new friend create a rift between Fran and Jamie, ultimately jeopardizing their double act.
Tiger Aspect produces in association with Sky Studios. Myfanwy Moore, Siobhan Bachman, Morwenna Gordon and Tilusha Ghelani executive produce. The commissioners are Zai Bennett, Sky UK’s managing director content, and Jon Mountague, Sky Studios’ director of comedy. NBCU Global Distribution handles international sales.

Mel and Sue are coming back for “Hitmen” seconds.
Their Sky series “Hitmen,” which premiered on Peacock in the U.S. earlier this month, has been renewed for a second season, Variety has learned exclusively. Season 2 is slated to premiere sometime in 2021.
In “Hitmen,” former “Great British Bake Off” hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins play Jamie and Fran, who are trying to make their way in the world with only each other to rely on. They also just happen to kill people for a living.
The show debuted in the U.K. on Sky One back in March, and Giedroyc tells Variety that plans for when and how to shoot the second outing are well under way.
“We’re very excited because series 2 has now been officially greenlit and we’re going to film, fingers crossed, in the new year, whenever it’s possible for us to do that,...

A major pre-season “Big Brother 22: All-Stars” rumor was that Nicole Franzel was the reason former winners Derrick Levasseur and Dan Gheesling aren’t playing this season. And, well, Janelle Pierzina has confirmed that’s the case more or less.
During an early morning chat with Nicole Anthony on Friday on the live feeds, Janelle spilled the tea as she expressed shock that Nicole F. was working with Cody Calafiore, aka Derrick’s Hitmen right-hand man on Season 16.
“Well, it’s very weird that she’s working with Cody because from what Dan told me, she’s the reason that Derrick isn’t here,” Janelle said. “So I don’t know. I don’t get it. Like, what the hell did she do? How did she do that? I’m so confused. But that’s what Dan told me.”

Mel and Sue have gone from “Bake Off” to bump off.
Many viewers will recognize Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins from their pun-tastic days hosting “The Great British Baking Off,” but the duo have been in the business of pratting around on screen and stage together for over three decades.
Their latest adventure as a pair of bumbling assassins in Peacock’s “Hitmen” represents in some ways a dramatic departure from the “sweet and fluffy” halcyon days of “Bake Off.” However, fans of their infectious camaraderie needn’t worry. Perkins reassures that their trademark “pissing about” is still a key ingredient of this batter, just sub in bullets for chocolate chips.
“It was nice to do something which was so radically different from ‘Bake Off’ and to surprise people,” says Giedroyc. “You don’t often get the chance to do that in life, you get a bit pigeonholed and people just think,...

In fact, as seen in the exclusive trailer above, Giedroyc's Jamie still attempts to celebrate her Bff's birthday all while waiting to take out a target. "I called round, and everyone said they were busy," Jamie tells...

Comcast confirmed plans to launch a global news platform with Sky News at the launch of its highly anticipated streaming offering Peacock.
Variety understands that the channel will be a brand new service that exists independent of Sky News and NBC News, with bases likely to be set up in London and New York and a team of journalists around the world. The new venture, which is as yet untitled, could contend with the likes of CNN and Bloomberg.
An international news platform between NBC and Sky, the U.K. pay-tv operator acquired by Comcast in October 2018, was first mooted last April by Comcast CEO Brian Roberts during an earnings call. At the time, the executive said the platform would launch in late 2019, meaning that the service will now likely debut this year.
Last year, Comcast also launched free streaming service NBC News Now.
