Best of the Best

Harry finally has to deal with the pill guys as they try to dump him in the Salton Sea. He continues to alienate Maddie. She is young and short sighted and has a great weight, love for her dad and a knowledge of the incredible danger he puts himself in time after time. The search continues for the damning evidence of the handkerchief that contained the DNA. There are still a lot of bad guys out there, including the woman that wants Bosch's head on a platter for something that he did to her in the past. The pot is cooking with only two episodes left.

A newspaper article causes problems for Bosch.

This is a strong episode with some great action moments and good character exchanges.

It is difficult to discuss plot details without spoiling, but this episode has the strongest scenes in relation to the undercover operation. One of the best of these is a central action sequence that is wonderfully made. I also thought the scenes involving Elizabeth worked well and generate sufficient sympathy with the character.

Other characters who contribute well include Maddie, J. Edgar, Billets, Irving, Crate and Burrell.

All actors are on good form and the visuals are great as always.

The plane fight scene - and some other events, I guess...

Warning: Spoilers
My overall rating of "Bosch"'s Season 5: 3/10

So this episode has probably the most James Bond-ey fight Bosch has had so far, struggling to stay in a plane against 2 guys trying to throw him out. The fight isn't bad by any means, but the green-screen, low-budget nature of it is somewhat apparent. The events outside of that are... pretty ridiculous, contrived and inconsistent with the plot. J. Edgar just watching a female druggie sleep instaed of acting on the - minor -intelligence she'd already provided in the hope that she dreams up more; the DEA conveniently hearing about fentanyl so long after its discovery just to show up at the airport; Irving's nonsense with the DA etc etc.
