The entire cast is incredible in this episode, but the real standout is Tom Pelphrey as Ben Davis. His acting range in this show has been absolutely incredible and deserves recognition, as always, this show is tense af, well directed and all the actors are great

Acting of the highest order!
rohidthomas3 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I mean WOW! Where do I start? The acting and direction in this episode is one of the best in the entire series. Ben and Wendy stole the show in this episode. The scene where Helen delivers the news to Ben in the station is so chilling as he takes things up to a new level with his emotions. The screams still echo in your ears as he does a fantastic job of capturing the pain and fear of having to be moved to a mental institute. Wendy's reaction shows just how much it hurts her to witness everything that is happening to none other than her own brother and this is start of her breaking down under the pressure as she can't bear what she is seeing. I can't stop watching this episode for the way it delivers so well on suspense. Great credit to the writers for introducing a character such as Ben and giving Marty and Wendy a major challenge to overcome this season.

Tom Pelphrey as Ben is simply amazing.!This episode is the most intense in the whole series so far and the way of Toms acting as a bipolar sick man just so realistic.

Good episode but...,

Warning: Spoilers
I have to speak out about the complete lack of security cameras, security personnel and body guards. Marty has been kidnapped, Ruth almost beaten to death and no events are caught on security cameras or initially stopped by security personnel? I'm pretty sure casinos are ringed inside and out with cameras and other security measures. The FBI could have looked on the tapes and known for sure Marty had been kidnapped.

Casinos tend to handle lots of cash, that might warrant better security outside.

The Byrd kids lie outside at home alone on a trampoline after witnessing a truck massacre, not being able to look out their windows of their house due to cartel killers about, and the KC mob making constant threats.

Marty, Ruth and Wendy are routinely threatened with death but they never have any protection except brother Ben and the son's super fast drone.

Hire some muscle, some security guards!

Wendy stresses they must act like law abiding citizens. All law enforcement knows for sure they are crooks, besides the chumps at the foundation event, who are they fooling?

I lost track of how many times they've been to the sheriffs office in the past few episodes. Get a room there, save time.

They openly talk about criminal deeds and use real names in their houses, cars, businesses and on cell phones. There are FBI agents all over the casino. They would be folllowed and tracked in their cars, houses, cars and businesses bugged and their electronic devices compromised by the FBI.

Last item. The size of the riverboat is comically small. In this episode we can clearly see at the foundation event the tiny entrance, dock and boat at scale. The inside of the boat could barely hold bathrooms, let alone the cavernous gaming floor depicted inside.

Got that off my chest, but I like the show.

Awesome episode with some plot holes
AKAShirawi6 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So first of all, I want to say that this show is slowly creeping up my favorite shows ever. Extremely well-written, acted, and directed.

However, with this episode, I wanted to ask a few questions:

1.) I will reiterate the points of other reviewers how there is literally little to no security for such a high profile event as well as rich individuals such as themselves.

2.) HOW did Ben figure everything out? From Ruth's dad being murdered by Wendy to their business partner in Chicago. He said he figured everything out. How?? In the space of a few hours he knew everything from A to Z. This guy should be the head of the FBI with his skills. This completely threw me off the rest of the episode. It just felt like the writers wanted to speed things up to get to the climax.

Amazing writing till this point. Still extremely intrigued to what is to come.

He's sick. He doesn't know what he's saying
caballero-1913 January 2022
Finally! Finally! Ozark reached that tension that everyone talks about.

Control is the word, Ozark is about controlling the consequences, the interesting and juicy thing is to see the Bryde's attempt to remain calm between business and family interests. And although I think Ozark doesn't always take advantage of this particular element, when Ozark decides to break the tension things like this happen. An extraordinary episode of consequences.

And of course it's much more exciting to think that there are still two more episodes to finish this season.

Tom Pelphrey's fascinating performance as Ben, thanks to him, this episode has the energy it has.

Tension
hauberjohann18 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Although there are a few issues with plot holes, this is one of Ozark's best episodes to date. The scene at the end where Ben confronts Helen in front of her daughter is tough to watch as he no doubt signed off his own death warrant. What doesn't make a whole load of sense is how quickly Ben wanted to turn his back on his family, the one source of protection he had, and how someone as clever as he is( to figure out the truth about the cartel and Cade) decides to publicly mention the truth about the cartel, although that could be due to the effects of his condition. Overall, a good episode with some tense moments.

8.6/10.

Great but.....
neilsharp-0311515 January 2021
Seeing a more vulnerable side to Ruth is excellent, I honestly thought there may be an abuse back story but I was obviously wrong, the cross stories between the characters is excellent, everyone has an agenda and a different way to achieve it, the unbelievable aspect to this episode is Ruth who has broken ribs and had surgery for internal bleeding, lying under her boyfriend and having sex, totally ridiculous!

Stakes get raised
bosporan25 April 2022
Ben goes open-loop this week from a combination of concern for Ruth, lack of medication and his anger at what he has found out. A fabulous performance from Tom Pelphrey with massive range from upset, fear to rage. This will, no doubt, have serious consequences.

Roll on series 4
graham-818309 September 2021
Excellent. We just watched all 3 series over a couple of weeks. Intrigued from the outset, and captivated throughout. I didn't find quite all of the story lines and outcomes totally convincing, hence only 9 stars. But it highly compelling stuff, and crammed full of complex and intriguing characters.

A great end to.series 3, but it's clear a fourth is needed - and keenly awaited.

Great ep as usual except one glaring hole (spoilers)
unicyclenewpaltz3 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As usual, the acting is superb and the writing and direction are just as good ... except for one "error" in the writing: How is it possible that Marty and Wendy basically have zero security at the big gala, especially given the lives these folks lead and the things that have been going on in prior episodes?

Too much..
kbrenkb28 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I just will never understand why Ben all of a sudden turns on his sister and Marty.. It makes no sense, if he's so smart that he figures out the entire back story, why is he dumb enough to think that Marty and Wendy could have killed Frank Jr and there wouldn't be any blowback on them? It just doesn't make any sense. I get he's unhinged but the writers were given far too much rope on this one..

This is pure art!
UngaroSpinato30 May 2021
This episode is more than just a 9 for me, it's 9.4 maybe. The acting is great and all actors did a very good job. I felt something similar Ozymandias in a few moments.

So, make it clear: Ozymandias is much more powerful and everything, but we have to let Ozark grow with its fourth and last season.

I feel the pain, I feel depth, ideas and real drama.

I also didn't give a 10 to this, cause I respect Face Off, Felina, Granite State, Salud and other Breaking Bad episodes like those, and also masterpieces as 407 Proxy Authentication Required and many Mr. Robot works of art.

I wait Ozark to top everything beside the 2 shows I mentioned before and Dark too.

Tom Pelphrey 👋🏻

Warning: Spoilers
A breaking point. That's the gist of this mentally-draining episode. Ben Davis and Ruth Langmore's relationship always seemed tricky and 'BFF' shows that it is the recklessness of the two that really distorts the Byrde household. With a mix of astounding performances, the taxing episode brings out big bombshells and leaves us with a hollow feeling. The episode begins on a staggering note as Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) goes to check on his therapist Sue Shelby. She's nowhere to be found. Out of suspicion, he opens her laptop to check the data. It's all vanished. He checks the register and spots two check-ins - one from Frank Cosgrove Jr. And another from his lawyer, Helen Pierce. When Ruth finds out what he did, she asks him, "Promise me, this won't happen again?" He does promise, but how long will he keep it? As they drive home, Ruth hints at how Wendy killed his dad, Cade, but doesn't want to get Frank Jr. Killed. Clearly, she isn't happy about Marty and Wendy's plan to bury the hatchet with him. She confesses, "Your sister is not soft. And with that excruciating end, the episode leaves with many questions: Will Ruth team up with Darlene and Wyatt against the Byrdes? Ruth comes to visit Ben and he sobs, "Tell me what I did that was so insane that I had to be locked up?" To help him get out, Ruth talks to Wyatt and he has an idea: "Maybe Darlene can help." Of course, Darlene can always help. Hellbent on revealing all of the Byrdes' crimes, he yells in front of everyone, "What happened to Marty's partner in Chicago?" Not just that, he punches Marty right in the face. As the security drags him out, every member at the event is shell-shocked. His punishment? He's committed to indefinite hold. "No, no, no..." he screams in the void. The howls and shrieks will ring in your ears for a long time. No sooner that is Ben freed, he goes to see the Byrdes and their kinswoman Helen. Can Wendy and Marty find a way out? This battle is getting interesting, and how!

BFF - 308
bobcobb3014 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode definitely gave us a lot of things we haven't had this season, it was different and kind of exciting, it is just not that good.

The story is really weak, and the cartel stuff is nothing we haven't seen before. If you are going to delve into what Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are doing you have to reach their level and this show does not.
