- When the Bebop needs repairs, Jet sends Spike to chase down a tip on a phantom bounty to cover the cost, leaving Faye to supervise the mechanic.
- Jet learns from his mechanic, Mel (Jade Harlow), that the Bebop needs a new engine part. Jet refuses to buy a new part from Mel and wants her to prep the engine instead. Jet asks Julia to keep an eye on Mel while he goes out to buy the part from a secondhand dealer. Mel gets attracted to Julia. Mel and Julia proceed to have sex. Julia tells Mel how she woke up from a Cryo sleep 2 years ago and all her memories from before that are completely gone.
Spike finds a photo of him and Julia together in the old days.
One of Jet's informants, Radical Ed (Eden Perkins) (A hyperactive child prodigy skilled in hacking), sends him information on "Cy-Baba", a legendary bounty that Ed has managed to identify as Dr. Londes, the owner of a clinic devoted to "freeing the mind". Cy-Baba was responsible for killing 3000 people and then he vanishes, and now has a $90 million bounty tag.
Spike investigates and quickly falls into Londes' trap. The office is empty, and Spike is guided by the receptionist Holo-Beatrice (Sinead Fitzgerald) into a chamber where he is asked to put a goggle over his eyes to do a brief orientation to the Londes center. As soon as he puts the goggles on his eyes, he gets ensnared in a virtual reality simulation where Julia tries to convince him to give up on her while Londes consumes his mind. In the Simulation Julia tries to convince Spike to let her go as she is chased by Vicious's men.
Spike is not picking up Jet's phone, prompting Jet to come and look for him. Jet finds the Londes office empty and finds Spike chained to a chair with goggles on his eyes. As he tries to remove the goggles, he is stopped by a fat man, who says that removing the goggles will fry Spike's brain. Cy-Baba's creator, Dr. Kayback, reveals that the only way to kill Londes (Life Observing Neural Development Emulation System), who is really a powerful AI that has become self-aware and psychotic (and responsible for the death of 3000 test subjects), is to destroy its mainframe on Earth. Dr Kayback says that Londes is trying to get Spike to give up his emotional tether. If Spike does that, Londes will be able to consume his consciousness. The longer Spike continues to fight for Julia and not give up on her, the longer Jet has to save him by destroying the mainframe. As Spike resists, Londes gets Julia to say to Spike that he is the real Psychopath and when she talks about feeling unsafe, it is with Spike. Julia gets mean and hurtful. She says that Vicious is not the villain and Spike just liked taking his best friend's girl. She calls Spike a monster and says that she could never love a person like him.
Mel patches up the Bebop's engines and they reach the mainframe but find it to be impenetrable. Faye uses her new rail-gun to pierce the mainframe, saving Spike's life. Mel departs after urging Faye to continue searching for "who she really is".
Spike quietly holds a picture of him and Julia, admitting to himself that he will never let go of his feelings for her.
