A perfect intro to a universe I know nothing about

I don't know Warhammer from Magic (which my son's play) other than it has plastic figures. With that said, it is now the most engrossing thing in my mind because I just watched this on YouTube. As a huge fan of "300", "Blackhawk Down", and "Halo" this was simply the best possible combination of all three - and more still.

This is easily the best cartoon of all time, also one of the best depictions of war that you can see on screen. If you don't watch this then I'm sorry for your loss.

Faith is purest when it is unquestioning

Helsreach has one of the best story&books in wh40k franchise. This series was a true testament to its legacy. The art style was really great. Everything was in its own place. 10/10.

Starting in 2004 with dawn of war 1 and continuing to 2018 by helsreach and even getting better as the time goes on! The review title is also a quote, frequently used by astartes chaplains!

The Fan movie that Started it all.

I watched this over the 2 years it was made. Watching Richard's live streams as he showed how he did it an made the choices he did. In this, Richard make's directorial decisions and focuses exclusively on the story of Grimaldus, Recclesiarch of the Black Templars. The Black Templars are the most religiously zealous of all the Adeptus Astartes (Genetically engineered TransHumans) and a Recclesiarch is supposed to be the most zealous of them all. He is the Spiritual leader of the Chaplains of his chapter, who are the spiritual leaders of their battle brothers. Adeptus Astartes, or Space Marines in colloquial terms, are warrior monks, determined to the protection and advancement of the realms of Humanity called the Imperium of Man. They worship, along with the 1 million (plus) worlds of humanity, the Emperor. The Emperor was the supreme pinnacle of Human evolution, and was the Omega Plus psyker that guided humanity through 50000 years of evolution. He now resides as a living corpse on the Golden throne in the Ancient home world of Terra, his guiding mind still taking an active role in the lives of his Imperium. Grimaldus and his Squad are dispatched to the Hive City of Helsreach, with orders from the High Marshall to defend it to the death. Grimaldus knows it's a death sentence for him and his men but he goes, taking his men into the very hell that he knows where he will be left dead, bereft of Glory and honor. Journey with Grimaldus as he re-encounters his basic humanity that reignites his fires of faith to a massive climatic battle against a numberless horde of enemies. But is that enough to carry him through the battle or will he end up on the endless cemetery fires.

A masterwork of fan cinema

How can I praise this work enough? It is easily one of the greatest adaptations of any Warhammer source material into film, including most of the officially-released Games Workshop content. The vocal talent of Jonathan Keeble as he narrates the story and voices most of the characters make Aaron Dembski-Bowden's writing sparkle. Watching the visuals improve steadily with each installment offers a cool story within the story as the small, dedicated creative team hones their craft. This series should serve as inspiration for anyone who dreams of adapting their favorite stories from other media into film.

WHY CANT WE SEE?
xristos-0239612 May 2022
I don't really know how the plot is going but the animation is hideous i couldn't stand it over 20 minutes. There is no information on what are you watching, there is only black and white almost 2bit video without any depth or background present so there is only the main "focus" of the video and nothing else on each frame. Can't watch it at all.
