During U.S. Army Basic Training, and U.S. Marine Corps Basic Training "Boot Camp", the Drill Instructors during the Vietnam War physically and psychologically got "the Civilian" out of you one way or another. Then turned you into a U.S. Army Soldier, or "The Corps" Marine after breaking you apart and rebuilt you, this is what makes it difficult to "Reintegrate" into the Civilian Life. If really pushed I can actually produce my Selective Service Card.

Notice I left out the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy, have seen what could be considered by U.S. Army or U.S.M.C. Standards as Unacceptable for a Combatant.

Never saw a fat Marine, even as a Civilian, "Old Habits". Discipline, Physical Fitness like getting up in the Morning and doing some degree of Physical Training even when Old.

Real U.S. Military Service Members "Off Duty" rarely wear any "Dress Uniform", reason, wearing a Uniform for most of U.S. Military Life, wearing Civilian Clothes is considered a Privilege, like Liberty or Leave. Going into someplace that you know might cause a problem, a fight, while wearing a U.S. Military Uniform is a disgrace to the U.S. Military, as "Conduct Unbecoming"

When assigned as U.S Army Special Forces Officer (previously Combat Service Support) to the U.S. Marine Corps to Train U.S.M.C. Force Recon to be more like Us, U.S. Army Special Forces as Today's U.S.M.C. MARSOC, left my U.S. Army Officer's dress hats, Uniforms on a shelf, and was issued U.S.M.C. "Utilities" (still have a set in my closet), then "the Fun" began, wearing down U.S M.C. Marines physically and psychologically to screen out any that could not endure what would happen next. Most would lose about 10 pounds to 15 pounds during the first phases of Training and more during the other phases.
