A six-part television series premiered on Finnish television in March 17, 1981 on Pikku kakkonen (1977) at Yle TV2 channel. The actual on-screen title is "Karvakuonot" (like in the original series Karvakuonot (1978), shot almost entirely in the studio), but generally known as "Karvakuonot vesillä", the title from the television listings from the first rerun (between October 15 and November 19, 1982). The series was also released on VHS in 1989 with the box title "Karvakuonot vesillä".
The first series or film where the popular Finnish children's characters from Pikku kakkonen (1977), the Karvakuonot and Pelle Hermanni (Circus Clown Hermanni), appear together in the same scenes. "Karvakuonot vesillä" premiered in March 17, 1981, four months before the series "Seilataan Saimaalla" (featuring Karvakuonot, Pelle Hermanni and Timo Taikuri). These two series were shot in 1980 and 1981 respectively.
