Finally a classic Creepshow feel.
Michael_Seth_Adams24 October 2019
Let me start by saying the 2nd half of this episode, Lydia Layne's Better Half, is a little weak but still pretty good. That's really all I have to say on that one.

Now, The Companion. Man, I'm not gonna give any spoilers, what I will say is it is the best of the series so far. From its look, story and ending; it feels like it's straight from the original Creepshow. I highly recommend this episode to any Creepshow fan looking for that classic feel fix.

Nightmarish scarecrow vs. strong but dumb women
Coventry4 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Although I haven't seen the entire season yet, I'm already quite certain that "The Companion" will remain one of my favorite short stories in the "Creepshow" reboot. I second the other reviewers who stated that this is the first (and so far, only) segment that truly brings back the feeling of creepy and sinister anthology stories of the 70s and 80s. The same genius who wrote "Bubba-Ho-Tep", Joe R. Lansdale, serves a script that features a downright fantastic scarecrow monster (with animal jaws!), an atmospheric flashback and a sardonic finale. The second segment, "Lydia Lane's better half", features some good ideas (battle between strong women and an earthquake in LA) and an always-effective setting (a stuck elevator) but the plot badly suffers from the "take a deep breath and think" syndrome. This basically means that the lead protagonist easily could have avoided his/her nasty ordeal, IF they only took a moment to think. In this case, successful businesswoman Lydia Layne shouldn't even have tried to cover up the death of her young assistant/lover. It was a freaky accident! If she simply declared that Celia was so upset that she fell, or even that they had a banal fight that went awry, she would have gotten away with it. Granted, it wouldn't make much of a horror tale, but like this it's completely implausible for me. The generous rating 7/10 is mostly for "The Companion", and only slightly for the gore and beautiful women in "Lydia Layne's better half".

Scarecrow comes to life to help a young man! Greed causes murder yet guilt and conscience takes over!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode 4 from "The Shudder" streaming series "Creepshow" features two interesting tales called "The Companion/Lydia Layne's Better Half" are both interesting with drama and suspense as both are stories of revenge.

First up is "The Companion" a story set in a rural small town that involves a lonely young boy who's picked on and bullied by his older brother, as his only escape is to go fishing. However when he drifts away to an old abandoned farm he finds a house with a hidden past and the old farmer who lived there had secrets. It's like the old man of straw has magic, however this "Scarecrow" seeks out revenge for this bullied boy!

Second up is "Lydia Layne's Better Half" set in Los Angeles it involves a business and company lady named Lydia(Tricia Helfer) who's influenced by greed double crosses her lover an attractive young lady who wanted to move up the company ladder. Only Lydia delivers a knockout to her better half, yet things change when both are stuck in an elevator which stops as the feel of guilt and conscience turns to a grim end for Lydia.

Overall well done episodes of revenge that stayed true to the old classic ways of "Creepshow" and E. C. comics.

Lansdales Rule
blues998118 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Joe R Lansdale and his kids Kasey and Keith wrote a story to rival all the classic Creepshow comics, the scarecrow revenge story, the beauty of it is 2/3rds of the writers were pre-teen and they wrote one of the darkest stories ever written

Bad. Just bad.
Harfy24 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Let's check what we got here... 1st story : another teen getting bullied by is older brother. That's something never seen before. The poor boy discovers a scarecrow, which became "alive". Again, that's something we never saw before.

2nd story : a woman accidentaly kills her colleague-and-lover. She tries to move the corpse, using an elevator, but guess what ? Earthquake cuts the power off. And after a while, she's killed by her lover's corpse. Do I have told "already seen ever " ?

There is no scary things here, I bet writers were too lazy and simply made a copycat from older stories which we already know since decades.

Just bad. Not a real "Creepshow" if you ask me.

Awesome episode
redbeauty21200024 October 2019
I have loved every episode so far. The makeup and acting in this episode was perfect! I also love reading reviews but I have to say I was upset with the person that didn't like the fact that the bad character was a lesbian in the second story. Apparently they are ok with the bad person being straight because no lesbian has ever been a bad person. Just us evil straight people. I would have to say that attitude is about as bad as not liking someone for being gay. It goes both ways people!! And to imply that the director is a bad person because of the casting is childish. How about thinking how far the LGBT community has come because 10 to 15 yrs ago there would not have even been a lesbian character. On this episode she was the lead actress!!
