Upright (2019)
Low quality crap, but the leading lady made me stay for two episodes
The production quality is extremely low. It looks cheap, like a report from a local low-budget TV station shot on a camera from the 90s. The cinematography is bad. Acting is crap (except for Milly - she's gorgeous and plays like a pro). The story is boring and unrealistic. The pace is slooooow. I didn't care enough to watch it to the end, stopped after two episodes.
Why anyone would give it high marks is beyond me. Yes, Milly is wonderful, but she doesn't carry the show. The rest of the actors, specifically her counterpart, seem totally out of place, not wanting to be there. It's sad, sad beyond belief.
Orígenes secretos (2020)
A boring police procedural turns up the heat all the way to an absurd finale!
I really don't want to spoil anything for you, but it's NOT a police procedural. Just keep watching and your patience will be rewarded. It constantly changes its tone from sober and boring to hilarious. Everything changes and you never expect what will happen in 5 minutes.
Also - study the poster, you'll enjoy guessing the plot.
Wiedzmin (2001)
Okay TV-movie
This is actually a compilation of TV-series. A lot was left out, and maybe that's why it feels so inconsistent in places. Geralt was good, as was the little heiress. I'd say the TV-series was okay, the movie - not so good. Go for the books instead.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Boring!
Boring, boring, boring! No movie should be this boring. Acting, camera, colors - everything seems okay. But the story and dynamism suck big time. What worked beautifully in "Virgin suicides" fails miserably here. A definite no-no. B-movie on cable is a lot more fun. 2/10.
Tears of the Sun (2003)
Disgusting crap
Ever since Dire Hard (1 & 2) and Hudson Hawk the quality of Bruce Willis movies has been consistently declining. This one is pretentious patriotic crap. Everything in this movie sucks - the actors, the director, the script - you name it. My friends and I seriously considered leaving after the first 15 minutes. I wish we did - the movie gets worse and worse. It is simply unbearable. I can't imagine anyone THAT stupid to take it seriously.
We should have gone for X-men/2. At least there's nothing to expect from it. I will skip the next Bruce Willis movie, that's a promise I made to myself.
Moskva (2000)
Hysterical. The pre-crisis (1998) city of Moscow at its best.
This is simply the best Russian movie of the last decade. The plot is really irrelevant, although I wouldn't call it thin: gangsters try to recover money presumably stolen by a courier, who is dating two sisters and their mother (obvious reference to Chekov's `Three sisters', who dreamed of moving to Moscow). Now they do live in Moscow. and nothing changes for them!
There's fun and violence, and more fun. Most of the jokes and contextual and might not be readily understandable by non-Russian audience. Still, the movie is worth seeing just for the cinematography, light, act and entourage of the city now defunct (the crisis of 1998 destroyed the Moscow as shown in `Moskva'). The dialog is also brilliant, however I can't imagine it being adequately translated.
A must-see for anyone interested in the ways of modern Russia.
Key Witness (1960)
Boring, stupid, patriotic trash; Dennis Hopper is bad as ever
Got it on TCM between Maltese Falcon (1941) and The Secret Partner (1961). Boy, did this `witness' suck!
It's 100% predictable, it's over-played, it's boring. Everything in this movie sucked. Dennis hopper must have played his worst role here. The patriotic trash is all over this movie.
`A guy witnesses a murder in a community where no one's cooperating with police of fear. He stands by his testimony despite pressure from the bad guys and girls'. It you are willing to spend ~90min on this stupidity go ahead.
Definitely a bad movie. 3/10
Memento (2000)
cool editing and actors; the plot sucks
The movie is plain boring. I figured that the guy's starting points are flawed in the first 10 minutes of the movie. In 10 more minutes I figured exactly how others are manipulating him. The movie is painfully boring. It drags for 2+ hours and is no good. 4/10 only for creative editing and good acting.
Injeong sajeong bol geot eobtda (1999)
MUST SEE first 15-20 min, then may leave
The first 15-20 minutes of this movie is the best piece of movie action I've ever seen. You have to see it yourselves. Then it gets boring and more boring and still more boring. You should leave as soon as you feel bored. I don't regret spending my $8 on 15 minutes of superb action, I just wish I left and didn't see the very predictable and boring end.
