Multiple Maniacs (1970)
Probably the most personal movie by John Waters
I have seen all of John Waters' films, but something in this one seemed to stick out. I noticed that in his other movies, the characters are rarely developed, and if they are, you never get a glimpse at their personal lives.
This film is different in that way... it begins as racy as all of his other films, with "Lady Divine's Cavalcade of Perversion" a circus for perverts, drug addicts, homosexuals, and weirdo's. Mr. David, Lady Divine's boyfriend, wants Lady Divine to let Bonnie into the cavalcade, but she quickly dismisses the idea.
From here on, the film switches to a bizarre, and long, view of the characters personal lives. This is done by, long monologues, long shots in which the camera does not change, and very long scenes. These long scenes aren't that badly written, but it is more that they are real, and not part of a movie. After the first 10-15 minutes characters seem to have disassociated themselves from the original plot of the film, and it becomes some sort of a deranged soap opera. But just when you think that this film is different from all other of John's films, a giant lobster appears out of nowhere (and for no reason), named "Lobstora", and it rapes Divine. Divine then goes insane and goes on a rampage, and is then put to death by the national guard.
Besides the fact that Divine is killed in the end, it seems to be a prequel to a young Divine's life that is later portrayed in "PINK FLAMINGOS". This because in "PINK FLAMINGOS", Divine, is supposedly in hiding from the FBI, for murder. This murder which happened in "MULTIPLE MANIACS" of basically all the characters.
All in all, this is most definitely a must see for John Waters fans, it will bring new meaning to his other films.
The Faculty (1998)
unoriginal, predictable, entertaining
This movie had no originality. I, fortunately, got a free pass to see the preview so I didn't pay for it. Me and my friends were joking about what the movie was about before it started, one of them even said he hoped there would be a giant worm that shoots out little worms, big surprise there was! I knew right from the beginning what was going on, who was the alien and so on.
When I saw the ads I thought this movie looked terrible, and I thought that it has the possibility of being good, because i liked Scream and Robert Rodriguez's movies...but it seems that Kevin Williamson put everything he had into Scream, and the only was he seems to know how to write movies is to leech ideas from other movies..in this one it was Body snatchers/puppet masters & the breakfast club.
It was better than I thought it would be, and that's all I'll give it.. except for the fact that Robert Rodriguez does miracles with a terrible script.
Wizards of the Lost Kingdom (1985)
it's so bad that it's good
I saw this movie by accident when it was on TV a few years ago... immediately it became a cult movie for me and my friends.
I've seen this movie about 500 times (i'm serious), and the bad special effects, bad acting, bad story, never gets old.
All i have to say is, it's so bad that it's good.
What Dreams May Come (1998)
amazing effects, terrible story
I knew before I even saw this movie that it looked nice, but I bet myself the story would suck. And boy was I right. I do have to give it a lot of credit for special effects, it really was beautiful to watch, but the story just got in the way. Besides any movie can look nice if you spend enough millions on it.
Its story begins with Robin Williams and Annabela Scriora meeting, and they have kids, the kids die, their relationship crumbles, they go back together, and Robin Williams dies and goes to Heaven. His wife is so upset that she kills herself, and goes to hell because "suicides go to hell". (With such a beautiful movie they have such ugly things like this in the story) So Robin Willams decides he can't live without her and wants to go to hell to get her...but NO Cuba Gooding jr. warns him that nobody has ever gone to hell to do that...GIVE ME A BREAK, this movie is based on the fact that Heaven has been in existence for thousands of years, and you're trying to tell me that NOBODY has EVER loved someone enough to do that? And besides as if people would just give up on a loved one like that, I HIGHLY doubt that you were the first mr. williams. And besides that the films philosophy is that when you die you go to your most happy and comfortable place, mr. williams goes to his wife's painting, while his wife rots away in hell.
I think if maybe they toned down on the family **** then this could of been a good movie, but it ended up just making me mad.
