Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997)
Pink is out, the movie is in
I remember why I went to see this movie. For one I was a Power Rangers fan, #2 it was hiliarious when Kimberly (Amy Jo Johnson) on the ad commercial seemed to be evil and went "pink is out" to the Pink Turbo Ranger. I had irregularly watched Power Rangers ever since ZEO came out, but let me say - this movie is way better than the first Power Rangers movie. This one really flows and you can see an improvement in the acting of course. Not to mention, the original Pink and Red Ranger are back in this movie (not as Rangers but as their alter-egos Kimberly and Jason). I especially liked the scene when Jason was fighting Tommy (Red Turbo Ranger) because it always seemed on the show that when Tommy came (as Green then White Ranger), he stole Jason's thunder as leader of the Power Rangers. Anyway, if you want to see a good piece of Power Rangers history, I recommend this movie highly.
The New Ghostwriter Mysteries (1997)
Not the same
This was an attempt to relive the original PBS "Ghostwriter" series. None of the original cast was used, and the mysteries became one episode instead of a serial. I can see why this failed. The original Ghostwriter will always be remembered by children growing up in the 90s, this series is already forgotten.
The Charmings (1987)
One of the best!
"The Charmings" is one of my all-time favorite television shows. I still enjoy watching the episodes I have taped, even though sadly there was only 21 episodes made. I would have to say that my favorite episode is "Trading Places" where Lillian gives Luthor the power to look like Eric, but in turn, Luthor looks like Eric and now Eric looks like Luthor! The Mirror has some good strikes at Lillian in that one also. Some people say this was just a Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie rip-off, well folks, I beg to differ. The Charmings was a hilarious comedy and very original. I can watch it over and over again and that's not something I can do with Bewitched or especially I Dream of Jeannie. If TV Land, or something to the nature, picks up the Charmings to re-run give this excellent show a try!
Animal Farm (1999)
Disappointing!
This movie did not do the book of the same name by George Orwell justice. Read the book, it is much better. I believe they had to have spent most of their budget on the animatronics and the famous actors that lent their voices which left pennies for the script. Whoever took the book to script/movie format does not understand the book. Things were even changed in the whole plot. My advice is to read the book and then watch this movie so you can see for yourself. I give this movie about one star out of five, if even that.
Drive Me Crazy (1999)
One of the better teen flicks!
When i first saw the trailer for the movie I thought it looked pretty good so I went to see "Drive Me Crazy" opening night. This is one of the better teen flicks. The film is the first to put Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) off the small screen and onto the big screen in a starring role. It also brings out actor Adrian Grenier who I have never heard of before.
Melissa's character is the "miss school spirit", but Melissa does bring life to the character. She is also coping with her parents who are divorced and is mainly sore towards her dad who doesn't put out enough effort to see his daughter. She is neighbors with our other main character played by Adrian Grenier.
Adrian plays Chase who was best friends with Melissa's character Nicole until Junior High. He lives with his father and has strong views on certain things. This is due to his mother having died of cancer when he was only eleven.
I think that both lead roles portrayed their parts very well and Melissa really shined on the big screen. Other characters are introduced also throughout the movie and even with them a twist occurs.
In my opinion, this movie was better than "She's All That", another teen movie that people rate higher than the usual teen flick.
The music used in the movie is also very well placed. The main song is the Britney Spears single "(You Drive Me) Crazy [The Stop! Remix]" which is featured at the party in the movie and while the credits role, along with on the soundtrack for the movie.
As a final note I give the film two thumbs up and four out of five stars. Go see it and make an opinion for yourself, I think you will enjoy the feature.
Inspector Gadget (1999)
Go Go Great movie!
I have been waiting to see this movie for a long time. Finally, the day it opened I went to a new theater that has that "stadium" seating, and saw the movie on the first showing. The movie was fantastic! I was interested to see how they would explain how Gadget becomes Gadget and how Claw becomes Claw. They did it in a zany-way, more so for Claw's hand, which is crushed by a flying bowling ball! Matthew really does bring the cartoon to life, as he portrayed Inspector Gadget almost flawlessly. The movie was a little shorter than I expected, but I guess that is so the kids (the main audience) can keep attention at all times. I did have a few pet peeves with the movie. For one they are in "Riverton" and it is suppose to be "Metrocity". Second, Penny does not have a computer book or her communicator watch ( she gets the watch at the end during the credits). Third, Dr. Claw is just Claw (one word, like Madonna;) ) and, he does not have an organization called "MAD". Not to mention, we see his face, unlike in the cartoon. But, still, the movie was great and let me say the Gadgetmobile was super fast, funny, and awesome. I hope they come out with Gadget Part 2. I have already seen the movie three times total!
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
Get Hooked Again!
I went to see "I Still Know" opening night (Nov. 13) and let me say it was one awesome movie! The plot was great and Jennifer Love Hewitt was exceptional in the role of Julie James once again. The plot was great and had some extra added twists. Two thumbs up!
Titanic (1997)
Over rated
I am sorry, but I believe that this film was way over rated. It was too long , and really put myself to sleep. To really put it simple- the boat sank, get over it. :)
