Two of Us (2000)
Not great, but worth a watch.
Well, it wasn't great, and I wasn't really convinced by the John Lennon character, but it was still well worth watching...if you're a Beatles fan.
It's kind of a "what if" movie that bases its entire premise on "what if this happened one day" and pulls it off.
Much of the movie is just John and Paul talking back and forth, which is surprisingly well done. Such long stretches on one-on-one dialog can often be clumsy and forced, but the writer and actors do a fine job of holding your attention.
Geri's Game (1997)
Is this the guy from Waking Ned Divine?
I really enjoyed this short, and was pretty impressed with the animation, though not completely blown away. However, after renting Waking Ned Divine, I could not help but think of Geri's Game when watching the skinny actor that becomes Ned Divine. Is it possible that Geri was modeled after him?
The Jackal (1997)
What a Gurgly Death!
This is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. Bruce Willis' disguises were laughable and nearly as transparent as his performance.
However...to top it off, this film has what must be the most gurgly death scene ever filmed. The scene goes on and on...and the character gurgles and bubbles and gurgles some more. Classic. It had the opening weekend crowd laughing right along with the poor gurgly terrorist.
I applaud the director for injecting such a surprising dose of humor into a scene others would have filmed much more dramatically, completely ignoring the comic possibilities.
Kudos to that!
Andy.
