Art Deco Masterpiece
23 September 2004
This film is for those who enjoy the Golden Age of Hollywood. Shot, scripted, and acted all in the classic style. Sky Captain contains no gratuitous nonsense that infests every other movie today and is made simply to entertain. Shot in a smooth sepia tinted black and white, the film takes on a surreal quality, with no shaky hand camera work, again akin to today's action/adventure movies. As for Sky Captain's story, it is something of an Elseworld tale by DC Comics, with all the ambiance and technology of the original Batman TAS or the old Space Cadet stories. The actors augment these two areas by giving Sky Captain an even greater old-fashioned feel, mainly Jude Law, who, as always, delivers.

Best portrayal of the Dark Knight.

Ever since Phantasm came to the theaters, I was hoping that WB would put another animated movie of that caliber on the big screen again. Phantasm is the essence of the true Batman. No bogus sidekicks, the Gotham PD hunting down Batman as if he were a threat, and a great interaction with Alfred. For any die hard Batman fan this is truly a must.
