Strangeland (1998)
Ouch!
The only part of the movie that got any kind of response out of me was all of the peircing. But, last time I checked, horror movies were supposed to do more than make you cringe. Shame on Dee Snider for making this movie... it was just bad. It is sure to catch on with Marilyn Manson drones, but as far as catching with any real movie fans... deffinately not.
Cube (1997)
What a wonderful analogy of life...
When I watch a movie for the first time, I take it for face value. This movie is unbelievably suspensful and very intellectual... not just a gore movie. The movie itself is enough to make me want to own it. After seeing it I thought about it more. Other comments on the movie stated that parts of the movie were unclear and that the vague ending left a "bad taste in [their] mouth", but I think there was more to it than that. I could be completely wrong, but I interpreted the cube that they were trapped in was actually life as we know it. The different rooms represent the different paths we take in life. The final room is a bright white seemingly infinite place... hmmm, I wonder what that could represent? I believe that the director left the movie semi-vague so that we as observers would notice this hidden meaning. The next time you see Cube, check for the subtle things.
From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999)
How can you screw up a Quentin movie?
I love you Quentin, but what were you thinking with this low-budget movie? You wrote the thing, you should have pitched in to make this movie more... digestable. Mr. Scott Speigel... what were you thinking with all of the corny camera angles. The overuse of the objectives made me look away from my TV. I guess the only positive aspect of the movie was the two minutes of Bruce Campbell in the intro.
Running Time (1997)
Great Movie... 'nuff said.
I must say that this is one of the best movies I have seen in quite a while. First off, I am a huge Bruce Campbell and Josh Becker fan. I think they both did a bang-up job on this movie. The black and white format gave the movie a certain feeling that fit it to a "T". Not to mention the one scene-one take mentality of Becker. Excellent! If you haven't seen the movie (possibly due to it's 50 dollar starting selling price) you must get it or find a friend who owns it... then steal it.
The Evil Dead (1981)
Greatest horror movie of its genre
I watched Evil Dead for the first time this halloween(1998) and I immediately became an "evil dead head". It is about 5 friends that go out to an old cabin in the middle of the woods and stumble upon an old tape recorder which recites ancient words bringing an evil spirit into this world. Although, it is one of the scariest and gruesome movies I have ever seen, It also has its comedic moments as well. This has got to be the greatest horror movie I have ever seen in my life. Bruce Cambell (Ash the hero) gradually transforms from an everyday-joe into a rough-and-tough killing machine (not to mention his dwindling sanity). I totally dig the special effects and the mix of horror and comedy. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for an original scare. Overall: Great movie (10 stars)
