RoboCop 2 (1990)

Excellent comic-book sequel to the original.

I actually think Robocop 2 is superior to its predecessor, though many fans of the latter would probably disagree with me. Robocop 2 is very violent, bloody, and often quite funny. The action sequences are exciting and handled with great skill, and the FX are superb. This is one of my favourites.

Death Machine (1994)

Dire.

The film has a promising visual style that never manages to transcend the mundane plotting. A blatant rip-off of Alien, The Terminator, Die Hard and a half dozen other films. Avoid this one!

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

An exceptional SF film

I would certainly not by any means label myself a Star Trek fan (the spin off series are dire, 5th rate soap operas). Yet this particular film (unlike the insipid sequels) is inspiring. It represents what cinematic SF should be like. A classic.

Sniper (1993)

There is the germ of a good movie in here, I'm sure of it.

Despite its interesting premise, 'Sniper' is quite tedious. With a tighter script and sharper directing it could have been electrifying; instead it plods along with little tension.

La Femme Nikita (1990)

A superior thriller

Sexy, stylish, very cool, though unevenly paced. The action scenes pack a huge punch.

Cerebral

An intelligent, cerebral film that does justice to the term science fiction. Fantastic special effects.
