Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Star Wars It Is NOT.. But..
Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the Phantom Menace. However, for fanatics of the originals, like myself, it did have some drawbacks. For instance, there were just too many computer generated characters and images. I know that many movies are all about special effects and that is what draws people to them, but Star Wars movies are NOT like anything else. I would rather have seen a movie that was less theatrical and more like the originals. In defense of Lucus, I guess he was just trying to stamp the new millennium on Episode One. The plot was as good as I would have expected, for a lead-off film. Little Anakin was certainly no acting marvel. However, there are scenes were you can see what his character short-comings are, which will eventually lead him to become Darth Vader. I was impressed by Liam Neeson's role. His powerful screen presence was certainly a positive for the film. I am confident that in the coming years as Episodes Two and Three hit the screens, the stories will improve significantly. Remember what Yoda said, "There is another" (actually Two) May The Force Be With You
A Civil Action (1998)
Not for the $$
The film was done and is sure to make Injury Lawyers around the globe gloat. Travolta is excellent, but now that's really expected. I was also impressed with the images of Massachusetts. They add much more than do sound stages. I was a little disappointed with the ending, don't worry I didn't ruin it for you. It just kinda ended quickly. Overall, though a fine picture and well worth seeing
Fahrenheit 451 (1966)
A Burning Change
This film was excellent. It depicted the future much different then other futuristic movies do. Montag, after a talk with a local renegade teacher is intrigued by books. No longer does he see them as evil, but rather as interesting and perplexing. He is drawn also between his beautiful wife and the teacher.(both played by Julie Christie) Overall, Montag changes in many ways.
Good Cops, Bad Cops (1990)
Cops, robbers- one in the same
The film was very well made. It's main character is Jerry Clemente, who along with his gang of "bad" cops take their piece of Boston's criminal offerings. At first they were petty, but it was not enough for Clemente. He soon sets his eye to a bank with big score written all over it. The question for Clemente is whether he can keep his "circle" together before a case is built against them..
