The Matrix (1999)
Great Special Effects and an interesting plot propel "The Matrix"
The Matrix is an exciting and very interesting movie. It combines great special effects with an interesting story line. It's only down-side is that some of the exposition is heavy-handed and takes too long (there were parts of the movie where I was just bored). But the next fight scene more than made up for the slow parts and the idea behind it was compelling.
The Thin Red Line (1998)
A confusing WWII movie, with real war and fake characters.
While attempting to show what real war is like, A Thin Red Line does little more than confuse the audience. The deep/meaningful thoughts of the characters seem unrealistic, sometimes too poetic, and the point of the story was lost on me and those in my party. Some two hours into the movie I just wanted it to end, but it kept going on and on, throwing in extra scenes that only further confused me and made me long for something (other than the book that this movie was based on) to read.
Shakespeare in Love (1998)
An exciting if not predictable romance
Shakespeare In Love is very romantic, but because of that it seems somewhat predictable. Although funny in parts, because of its predictability, it drags through some sections of the movie. For the true romantic this is a great movie, for the rest of us, it's just pretty good.

In Dreams (1999)
A dark and strange movie
Psychic powers have always facinated me, so my like of In Dreams might be clouded by my interest in the paranormal. Although slow at times (the movie seems to take a long time to get going), In Dreams is exciting and interesting, with enough twists and turns to keep the audience entertained.
