slightly silly, but I love it
6 February 1999
This is great. It's nice to see a movie that has silly twists where everything fits perfectly to give very exciting and entertaining scenes. Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas are superb together, they are perfectly compatible actors in their prime, elements which scream for credit. It has everything a film could want, good car chases, very explicit sex scenes and a film which requires some thought. Some may think the silly dialogue is a bit unrealistic but it is carried out with such great acting that it must be witnessed. How else would it be famous.8/10.

Underrated movie, read on...
18 December 1998
This movie is a little underrated as far as plot goes. Some of the suspense scenes are "boring" but then given an open mind there are good ones. The acting is rather bland, even Samuel L Jackson, though praised, was lucky playing an "easy role". Dustin Hoffman doesn't give his usual effort and Sharon Stone with the short hair and belt securely fastened fails in giving her usual pazzazz. However it does give a sense of isolationism which does generate suspense much the same as Ridley Scott's, Alien, and James Cameron's, The Abyss. Take a look, but be ready for a lot of thinking as this film can be confusing.6/10.

I never knew Sharon Stone was so talented

What a fantastic movie, thanks to its cast, top heavy with stars and fine direction of the "Oscar begging" Martin Scorsese. Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci are great, as always, together. But, surprisingly, it's Sharon Stone that comes of with all the acting credit, she simply effervesces as the gold digging casino hustler. After witnessing her performance myself I couldn't agree more, and think she deserves a place above Susan Sarandon who "stole" the Academy Award from under Sharon's nose. The photography is phenomenal and combined with great acting is a recipe for a classy film. However occasional brilliant sequences, are often marred by the continuous commentary, which prevents any real, deep, emotional involvement with any of the characters. Great stuff, just slightly flawed.9/10.

Poor movie, but worth a peek
18 December 1998
This movie is neither one of suspense or eroticism as the commercialisation suggests. The plot never seemed to unravel into anything special, which is shown with the incredibly poor, abrupt ending. One scene, the stair to lift scene, shows promise, but is over too quickly to keep the viewer suspended. It is however one of the famed "stone sex series", which although doesn't rival Basic Instinct can be erotic with Sharon's fabulous figure and great experience in that field. Mainly the script writers fault.4/10.
