The Boy Scout (2002)
Very Impressive and Funny As Hell
I saw this at the San Diego Film Festival in September 2002. The fact that I'm writing this over a year later tells you something about this film. It was made with great skill, yet is goofy as hell. Boy Scouts everywhere should watch this film. The Elevation 9000 team is wise beyond their years. Great job guys.
Suspended Animation (2001)
Great Performances, Original Approach
I saw this at the San Diego Film Festival and I was really impressed with it. Usually in horror films the gory stuff is all throughout with a big splatterfest at the end. This film approaches the horror genre almost in reverse. Most of the gore is in the beginning and the middle is made up of the main character trying to investigate his near death experience. The two cannibal sisters played by Laura Esterman and Sage Allen are WONDERFUL. Very strong performances from the both of them.
The Month of August (2002)
Original Character in August
I saw this film at the San Diego Film Festival. It's pretty straight forward in terms of a romantic comedy. A little too much sarcastic dialogue from the Nick character, although well played by Mackenzie Astin. The shining spot of this film is Ali Hillis as August. She has great instincts and skill as an actress that make you wonder if she's a forty year old in a twenty-something's body. Between Ali and writer Scott Benefiel, August was a very orignal and loveable character.
