Feel good movie
16 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
If you like action movies with lots of special effects and all those things, forget this film. This is a movie that will make you feel good, laugh and at the same time shed some tears. First, the actors are all excellent and the music is beautiful (I am a huge fan of Michel Sardou). The photography is also excellent and the dialogue is very funny on many occasions. I especially likes the actress portraying the mother in the film, her facial expressions are exceptional. As for the young girl her voice is not exceptional but she gives a very beautiful rendition of the songs of Michel Sardou. The only reason I rate this film as 9 is because from the time she meets her music teacher you immediately guess the end of the movie. Finally there was not a dry eye in the theather. This is my kind of film.

SPOILER COMING UP. The part where my wife and I loved the most was when the girl sings at the contest the sound is suddenly cut off and you feel what the parents feel and also when, the night before going to Paris, her father feels the girls throat to sort of find out her singing.

Too complicated
3 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Heard great reviews from radio - television and newspapers. Heard great review from friends. Unfortunately, my wife and I did not like the film because it is much too complicated with the flashbacks and all and it takes a long time before you get the idea. Once the story develops you expect to understand the story shortly but you have to wait and wait before understanding the plot. After you find out what the story is all about more than one hour after the beginning of the film you might appreciate it better. However the actors are all superb and the cinematography also. The music is good all through the film. Sometimes it is hard to understand the dialogue with the music being too loud.

Excellent film
26 January 2010
My wife and I saw this film at a test showing when it was shown to people in order to obtain their opinion. This movie takes place during the early '60s and the reconstitution is excellent and the same with the musical score and songs. At the beginning of the movie you question yourself as to where this story is going and what it will be all about but soon enough you get the idea and get caught in the captivating story. Young Charles-Antoine Perreault is amazing in the role of "Etienne" and sometimes, even the story is a drama, he is even funny in his actions. Francois Papineau as the doctor father is also excellent. Julie LeBreton as the mother is very convincing. Raymond Cloutier and Rita Lafontaine as father and mother of Francois Papineau are quite natural and depict very well the mentality of the early '60s. All of the other comedians are also very convincing. All in all we loved this movie and would recommend it to people over 35 years of age because of the subject matter which might not be appealing to people younger.

Very good movie
25 July 2007
This is a movie that is attractive to mostly older people rather than younger because of the main character is a woman of more than 70 years old. However the other main character is around 40 years old which should be attractive to younger people. I loved this movie very much, so did my wife. We thought we would be attending a funny movie and laugh all the way. We did laugh several times but we also were very much moved by the plot. The actors were excellent, especially Beatrice Picard and Sylvie Léonard. Other actors were also very good and we very much liked the actress playing the role of the secretary. The music is quite good as well as the photography and the costumes. All in all it is a movie that older people will enjoy more than younger people because of the story.

Don't run to see it
28 February 2007
I had heard raves about it and wanted to see it for myself to make my own opinion. First it takes too much time before you get into the story. I would have started the film with the Brad Pitt part and followed with the two boys. It would have informed us more quickly about the plot. Another example of this is that it takes a long time before you realize the reason for the Japanese part of the film Also, many parts of the film are too dark, personally I do not like movies which are so dark. Several parts of the movie are way too long for no reason at all. This movie would have lasted less than 90 minutes if it weren't for those long scenes. However, the scenery is beautiful. The music is quite annoying sometimes at at other times it is very good. Kate Blanchett's part is not very big in that movie but she is very convincing. As for Brad Pitt he is, as usual to my opinion, great. All the ethnic comedians are quite good. The plot is excellent once you get it. All in all a good movie for the actors and scenery but the length of it and the time it takes before you get the plot made it so that I have to give it only four stars.

Les Boys IV (2005)

Very good film
20 January 2006
Contrary to the other "Boys" films, in this one there is not as much hockey as in the other three films. It stresses more on the individuality of the characters, even if there is some hockey. I especially liked the part where they go away to think only about the games coming up. During that time the dialog is succulent and the jokes are plenty. I am not a fan of slapstick comedy even if there is some in this film, however my wife and I found ourselves crying of laughter. As in all the other "Boys" movies, the actors leave nothing to be desired, Pierre Lebeau is excellent as usual and this guy can play almost any character either tragedy or comedy. All in all a much better film that "Boys II and Boys III even though I enjoyed the latter.

Very long
11 September 2005
I saw this movie as part of a test group.

I found the story to be very interesting but, personally, I do not enjoy movies where you see the actors thinking out loud while you do not see any action at all.

In this movie there are several instances where this happens and I find this annoying.

However the actors are very good and the scenery is also quite beautiful.

In the movie "Birth" with Nicole Kidman there is the same kind of thinking out loud that occurs and it is very annoying.

This film will appeal to a certain kind of audience.
