Osôshiki (1984)
Meditations on a dead body
You cannot say that this is a comedy but if you think about the Human Comedy. the Funeral is honestly very slow for an american-European eye even if Itami is the Japanese Wilder. His movies are very direct and versus the japanese idea of a normal society with normal people. The cadaver of the family's grandfather is the first step of a fracture between the family members... every shot is a dose of poison biting the apparent Tradition during the rite.
L'eau à la bouche (1960)
a waste for novelle vague
apart from the beautiful sound track by Gainsbourg the film in itself is a waste of time for the spectators. A very corny love story, a classical menage a trois where the life experience of the character result obscure, hide. The film is based on a white lie that is the foundation of the plot. Anyway I suggest it to the film collectors.
Teorema (1968)
Pasolini as a Sufi Master
Teorema is an idea a concept a piece of something. Into this movie, based on Pasolini's novel with the same title, the author explains is own view about a class of people. During the 60's italy hand a very "easy life" period. The middle class was the principal image of good values. Pasolini took one example of middle-industrial class in Milan and shows the contradictions of a family obliged to hide everything thati is versus the common sense, that is the moral sense im this case. A guest arrive from nowhere. In spite of the others he is silent. One by one the people in the house change attitudes. The first pat of the movie shows the relation between the guest and the others. The others are unable to listen and the guest, with a non-dialogue shock every belive of the others. The attitude of the guest is similar to tho one of Sufi method where is not neccessary to talk to the one that needs you but the one that needs you will come to you because he or her wants to.
Kizzu ritân (1996)
Kitano as far as Oshima
T. Kitano made his best film in 1990, it was "violent Cop". It is wild and strong picture, in a sense like this movie: "Kids Return". It takes place in a school. There are several students bored of their life. Two of them decided to become unsuccessful comic actors, the rest of the group enter in the Yakuza, except one who become a strong boxer. Is like in the Oshima's film about youth, every thing had a bad end, often that end is without a moral, maybe this is the real power of Kitano's movies. The only guide is the man in him self, alone. Every man is self care, the life is the thing it is. Kitano refuse the fantastic view, like in the new Japanese cinema (for example "Kitchen" by Morita), and decide to take an overlook of the facts that show us. That is the reason why I give 9 stars to this movie.
