Changing Habits (1997)
something different
Combine booze, nuns, love in a film. You get camp.
This movie is all... yet not.
It is quite lovely.
Joe Versus the Volcano (1990)
An awful movie. I LOVE IT.
I feel like this movie was judged on the fact that it is a Hanks/Ryan vehicle, and for that reason it got panned. (As it should...as a Hanks/Ryan flick)
I give it much more credit as a complex, funny, poetic yarn played out in amazing figurative language. There is no way Hollywood could have made this film a success. It exists better as a fable, to develop in our minds rather than on screen.
It is perfectly flawed.
P.S. I don't blame Hanks or Ryan who both could have played these parts very well (without the $$$ hanging overhead). They both teetered between brilliance and berryberrybad.
It Could Happen to You (1994)
Pure candy...
If you are one of those people who think a movie can actually make you feel good...
YOU'RE RIGHT.
This movie actually made my heart swell. Embarrassing but true. The story is manipulative, but the acting makes up for it (with Perez incredibly believable as Cage's witchy woman). See it.
Commandments (1997)
to holly or not to holly
Yes it took on too much, but at least it stirred up Hollywood's dust a bit.. I liked the acting, the chemistry, the story. Not perfect but closer then most.
Rear Window (1954)
that kiss...
Lisa wakes Jeff with a kiss that made my toes curl. It was then I realized what makes this movie work. Everyday romance mixed with extraordinary events. Heart-pumping action mingles with wonderfully simple and tasty storytelling. I could say more, but why?
