Phörpa (1999)
5,5 / 10 not recommended
Country: Bhutan / Australia
director: Khyentse Norbu
Born in 1961 in Bhutan, Khyentse Norbu (a.k.a. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche)... (show more)
its not really a "western" film...
anyway i had some good hopes and expectations but this film didn't turn out to be a little gem or anything near exciting so just check it
if you're interested in monks, Tibet, football (soccer for the Yankees), or low budget foreign films otherwise don't be disappointed to have missed it
Shaft (2000)
bad remake, do not watch
This movie is bad. It's very uncool and there's A LOT wrong with it. There's no suspense it's never exciting, it's all clichés, the acting is bad, and some roles have no function at all (Vanessa Williams). Worst of all the ladies are old or ugly or worse, old and oogly. Or wait a second, what ladies? Then there's the car chase: it's so boring. Eventually the bad guys drive next to the good guys after they've been shooting the car to pieces from behind (of course without hitting anyone) and all of a sudden they cant shoot the driver (Busta-very-bad-actor-doesnt-rhyme) when they're driving next to him. Then an Uzi gets emptied on the car and again no one gets hit. Both cars crash for some reason(?) and the wheels of the car aren't even spinning 1 second after the accident (at least 60mph). Righhtt. The father of the prime suspect is loaded with money, he's got every judge on his payroll, bails his son $200.000 then $1 million but the kiddo cant come up with $40.000 to whack the eyewitness? Who's been told to disappear and keep her mouth shut. "I've been running for 2 years". What? Running circles in Manhattan. That's hilarious. Etc etc. Tthis movie stinks. And I recommend anyone NOT to watch this one, especially if you liked the real Shaft. Samuel 'LD har har har' Jackson isn't cool in this movie. He's not Shaft, he's a weak version of Jules Winnfield. Watching Pulp Fiction for the 25th time is more exciting than watching Shaft2k.

The Cooler (2003)
Its a nice movie but not more than...
... a 7 out of 10, thats what it is. The Cooler has a good story, a nice plot, good actors and nice performances. Maria Bello was a fresh face to look at. William H. Macy starred as another loser. He seems to be good at it... (type casted??). The whole "cooling" job alone, is enjoyable to watch on itself. Too bad two stories don't evolve any further, Bernie's and Natalie's kids... The only thing that makes this movie not an 8 but a 7, is it's too predictable. The ending can simply be guessed and it's too bad there's not one nice twist or turn to make it unexpected. Anyway, make sure to watch it when you get the chance but don't put it on your list of priorities.
watch: Sydney / Hard Eight, starring: Philip Baker Hall, Gwyneth Paltrow, Samuel L. Jackson, Philip Seymour Hoffman
Lucky 7 (2003)
No bore, solid movie
Its funny, its touching, sweet, romantic, you can relate to the story and characters. Besides that the acting is good. Patrick Dempsey is always good, Kimberly Williams is very charming and witty. She deserves more good roles. And nice scenery in this movie. Of course you know how the story will turn out, but hey the whole movie is about predictions. I need more lines to post this comment, but there's nothing much else to say. Overall a nice movie to watch. No masterpiece but absolutely no bore or bad movie. One more line: don't rent it unless you've seen Box of moonlight or Coupe de Ville, but do watch it if it's on TV and you're in a romantic mood. I rate it 7 out of 10.
Carmen: A Hip Hopera (2001)
Bad flick
I wouldn't say don't waste your time on this one, but if you do then indeed you do waist it, coz its a bad bad baaaaad movie.
After 45 minutes it becomes so boring discipline is needed to keep watching and specially listening to the same kinda rap song again and again.
Gotta say Mos Def give quite a good performance, the rest was baaaaad.
Anyway this comment is too short, so Ill recommend people to watch it if you want to see one of the few movies in its genre. Or if you want to know what I'm talking about.
And there's really not more words to spoil on this movie to warn people that its bad. OK?
Bend It Like Beckham (2002)
Nothing is really real about it
I think this movie is OK, a 6,5 out of 10 mainly for originality. But it's lacking in most areas. It's not really funny - there are no really good jokes. It's not really dramatic - everything works out quite essily. The football isn't really real - once again the footy scenes are so incredibly fake and incorrect; and that last freekick is pathetic. The love story is never really finished - Jules just accepts everything? The same goes for the Tony-story... how does that play it out?
So mmm I was expecting a better movie and was a bit disappointed.
A Time to Kill (1996)
Overrated, thirteen in a dozen movie
Nah come on people, this is really not a good movie. There's nothing original about this script except for the fact that the suspect did really commit the murder. But the whole trial isnt anything near exciting. Sandra Bullock is supposed to be some genius, but the things she does couldve been done by any bozo. Once Kevin Spacey enters the movie you think there's gonna be some action, but his role is really dull. The worst thing about the movie is definitely the ending: it's oh so sweet it almost makes you barf. This is one of the many courtroom movies out there and about the worst one I've seen. I rate it: 4,5 out of 10
The Transporter (2002)
weak
this movie is not good and i wouldnt advice anyone with some taste to watch it but then again there has to be bad taste in order to have good taste the action scenes are just weak copies taken from other films the acting -specially lui qi or whatever her name is- is very bad
watch the bmw movies . com for cool bmw action
Terror in the Mall (1998)
Hahahaha!
If this movie happens to be on tv on a boring night: WATCH IT, coz it's so incredibly ridiculous and fake that you'll have a laugh watching it.
Scream (1996)
"B-movie" in an "A" coat
This movie is a B-movie in an A coat, if you know what I'm saying. It's entertaining to watch, and you will enjoy the movie, but it's far from scary. Most of the scenes I found myself laughing or enjoying the lines. The fact that everyone thinks that someone in the killer's outfit is a friend pulling a joke, makes it comic instead of scary.
Some scenes are far from realistic, especially when Neve Campbell happens to toss the gun (the only thing to defend herself with!) towards the door opening and guess who happens to be still alive...
You never get to wonder who the killer is, coz there's not a clear motive for anyone. So it could be anyone but why...?
You wont remember this one for a long time. It's overrated: it deserves a 6 out of 10.
Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return (1999)
bad bad bad
TERRIBLE movie, the movie keeps building up and then when it gets a little exciting it's over. You feel like you're halfway, and waiting for at least another 30 minutes to give it a decent ending, but no it's really over.

Man on the Moon (1999)
Funny but sad, and excellent Jim Carrey
I think people should see the movie, and especially if you love Jim Carrey. His performance was great.
Although the movie isn't rated very well ("weak movie" etc.) I had lots of laughs, because it was very funny and there were some sad parts too, which gave a nice contrast. I simply enjoyed the movie very much, but maybe thats because I had never heard of Andy Kaufman before (since I'm Dutch), so I was unbiased and I didn't know at all what the movie was about.
