The Score (2001)
Excellent
I saw the previews for this movie about a month ago, and I was not that excited about it. However, a few weeks ago I saw a TV ad for The Score and I wanted to see it. I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but it really surprised me. With a cast like this, how could you go wrong? Brando is a legend, DeNiro delivers his usual great performance, and Edward Norton steals the show. I did not expect Norton to be so good, but on the other hand, I wasn't even expecting to like this movie. I don't want to give away anything, so all I will say is that in my opinion, Norton is a damn good actor. Brando plays a small role, but his scenes are memorable because well....he's Marlon Brando. One of my favorite characters is the hacker kid who lives with his mom. He delivers some pretty good comic relief. Angela Bassett is hardly in this movie. The previews made it seem like she played a large role. Anyways, I enjoyed The Score, and I highly recommend it. If you're sick of the crap Hollywood has been putting out there lately, go see The Score. It's the best movie so far this summer.
Martin Lawrence: You So Crazy (1994)
Funny as hell
"You So Crazy" has to be one of the best stand-up acts I have ever seen. I laughed practically through the whole thing. I had never even heard of it until i saw it on HBO for the first time two years ago. I caught it in the middle and couldn't stop watching it. It was freakin' hilarious. I decided to go rent it and watch the whole thing. Everyone I know that has seen "You So Crazy" thinks its funny as hell. If you don't like Martin Lawrence, rent this movie and it will change your mind.
Scary Movie 2 (2001)
What a disappointment
When I first heard there was going to be a sequel to Scary Movie I was excited. The first one was hilarious. I like the Wayans brothers, and I think they are pretty damn funny. Theres just one problem: When the Wayans are good...they're really good, but when they're bad...they really suck...HARD. A good example of that is when Shawn and Marlon hosted the MTV Video Music Awards..they stunk it up. Scary Movie 2 starts out ok. The parody of "The Exorcist" is done well, but it has nothing to do with the rest of the movie. The big problem with this movie is that the unfunny scenes drag on WAY too long. Marlon's character is really annoying and not funny at all. That cursing parrot is extremely stupid and gets old very quick. The scenes don't flow together well either. It looks like they wrote the script in 3 days. I did laugh pretty hard at some parts, but most of the scenes were painful to watch and I felt bad for them. I really wanted to enjoy this movie, but they made it impossible. What happend here Marlon, Shawn, and Keenan? Didn't you take the time to watch this thing before you put it out there? The casting was also a huge mistake. Chris Elliot is a funny guy (sometimes), but he sucks in this film. Don't even get me started on Tori Spelling, I'd rather watch my dog lick himself then watch her. Another big problem is that none of the characters die! Thats what made the first one so good...the parts where they got killed were hilarious. This was a huge disappointment. What is going on with comedies these days? The past couple years have delivered some of the biggest let-downs ever. Such as "Little Nicky", "Joe Dirt", "Freddy Got Fingered", and now "Scary Movie 2". Please Hollywood!...For the love of God! Take your time while making these movies, and make sure they are atleast funny before they are released.
Dana Carvey: Critics' Choice (1995)
One of the best stand-up acts I have ever seen
Dana Carvey is hilarious in "Critics Choice". This is one of my favorite acts of all time. I wish that HBO would rerun it so everyone can see the full act since Comedy Central shortens it to 30 minutes. I think that everyone can enjoy "Critics Choice" because Dana Carvey is awesome.
Gladiator (2000)
I expected it to be much better, disappointing
When I first saw the previews for Gladiator during the Super Bowl, I couldn't wait to go see it. I was very disappointed. The first fighting scene was very good, but the movie drags on at some points after that. The dramatic scenes were sooo boring that I even fell asleep a few times. I did enjoy the action scenes, but the poorly done dramatic scenes made this movie too long and too boring. Save it for a Blockbuster night, dont waste $7.50 on Gladiator.
Ghostbusters II (1989)
not bad, but could have been better
As a child of the 80's, i enjoyed watching the Ghostbusters movies and cartoons. I enjoyed watching GB2, but like many sequels, Ghostbusters 2 does not live up to the original. One thing that i could have done without was the Louis and Janine relationship. This movie could have been better if it wasn't so corny. But maybe the reason people think this was a bad movie was because they expected too much. All in all it wasn't a bad movie.
