Die Schöpfer der Einkaufswelten (2001)
Bored
At the documentary festival this film was shown, about 15% of the people walked out of this film. This may actually be a low percentage considering the general pace and content of the film. Most of the rest of the audience was probably asleep.
This film consists of an hour and 15 minutes of business/industry/marketing type people discussing the development of various malls. Apart from a few minutes showing some dated software, the movie is nothing but talk. No actual malls are shown.
This would be almost acceptable, would the content actually be shocking, new or thought-provoking. But it's not. Can anyone be surprised that the design of a mall is based on the expected buying and browsing behavior of the public? You'd almost think that a shopkeeper needs to sell stuff in order to make a living...
This film has no beginning, no end and especially no climax. It doesn't make you think, it doesn't have any good visual content, and it basically goes nowhere. Watching this film feels a lot like a meeting at work. Because that's all it shows.
A waste of time. Walk out and go shopping.
La haine (1995)
Hard, real and in-your-face.
This is an excellent movie. It's the best reflection of reality in this kind of ghetto's ever. What most appealed to me, however, were the superb images and photography. The black and white seemed very natural, and afterwards I concluded that the movie wouldn't have been this good and also aggressive if it were in color.
I saw this movie in school, and it triggered a heated discussion between students about the problem of immigration in large European cities. So prepare yourself to meet people with a different opinion on the problems portrayed in the movie. This is reality...
