Where the Heart Is (2000)
Pretty Good Adaption of the book, but pacing is slow
Although this was a funny, un-ordinary movie, I think it could have been cut in hal, and better scenes added. However, it was maybe even better than the book, because the book skips from characters alot and this was more heroine-charged.
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
One Word: Complicated
Although I have heard good and bad(mostly bad) things about this film, I decided to watch it. Although I didn't find it boring, that was mainly because I never really knew how the story pieced together(i.e.:Mandy, the hooker, and ESPECIALLY the owner of the costume shop's daughter.) Now, for all those people that say you have to be "intelligent" to get this, I have a comment for them: GET REAL! SInce this is such a complex movie, you don't "get it" or not "get it." You interpret it as best you can....and though you may think YOUR interpretation is correct, those of us with brains actually wonder if we REALLY got the WHOLE message. See it at your own risk...edge of your seat.
The Real World You Never Saw: Hawaii (1999)
Not Worth Being Called Uncensored
Basically all this tape was are the "BORING"(NOT uncensored) parts of the Real World:Hawaii season. Nothing is revealed that you didn't already know. If, however you are a die-hard fan, rent this at your local Blockbuster but DON'T waste money on buying it.
Boys and Girls (2000)
Best Teen Movie This Year
Unlike corny teeney movie like "Drive Me Crazy," and others, this movie (although the same type of role Freddie Prinze Jr. always plays) is a common story about boy meets girl, they fight, they make up and suddenly realize their "love for each other." This is, however, the first time Prinze has played the nerdy type boy who gets the girl instead of the popular jock.
Still, this movie was funny and cute, and even some of the older crowd that had for some reason come to see it were pleased. If you are after a good-time with some good moments go see this! Claire Forlani, Freddie Prinze Jr, and Jason Biggs star.
Drive Me Crazy (1999)
Don't rent this sappy movie--go see "Boys and Girls" instead!
DO NOT RENT THIS MOVIE! If you would rather rent some teen movie however, rent "Never Been Kissed" which has a more original plot and by far better acting. In this story, Nicole loses her crush, Chase loses his girl, and Nicole then devises a plot where Chase will escort her to the school "Centennial Gala." Nicole transforms him, they fall in love, etc.....I practically fell asleep, and as a teen myself, I thought I would enjoy this but was proven wrong.
The Story of Us (1999)
Ok, but didn't measure up to the actor's previous work
I am 15 years old, but I know enought to know that Bruce Willis(The Sixth Sense) and Michelle Phfiffer (Dangerous Minds) are pretty good actors. I thought maybe this would be a cute movie, which it was. However some of the parts with Rita Wilson(Now and Then) talking "frankly" about sex got annoying. However see this if you are fans of the actors and there is nothing else to rent. 5/10-rating
Snow Falling on Cedars (1999)
Don't See This If youare an average teen
My friends and I both agree this movie was BORING and more suitable for our parents. It's not the movies fault, for WE are the ones who ventured out to rent it. But if you are like, a girl who likes teen flicks(even though my fave movie IS Good Will Hunting) rent something else. I turned this off after the first 5 minutes!
Center Stage (2000)
DON'T LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS IF YOU LIKE DANCING!
Although this movie has NOT gotten spectacular views--who cares? It is almost definate that it's critics did not appreciate dance, perhaps they were even bald, 56 year old men who had never been to a ballet. GRANTED, this movie IS NOT for everyone. If you have ever taken dance or been to a ballet, however--go see it. Its alot of danicng--and little plot...but you'll enjoy it!
The Beach (2000)
Not Worth Even The Matinee Price!
Whatever you do, DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE! I thought it looked really good...and wanted the opportunity to see DiCaprio come through like he did in Titanic. Yet me, and the 4 other people I went with agreed he did not deliver in this poor adaption of the book! From the opening credits, where DiCaprio is standing in front of a numbered board(don't ask) I knew this movie was going down hill..call me psychic..or just smart. READ THE BOOK!
Dawson's Creek (1998)
Down Hill Spiral
This had been, key word HAD, been the best teen tv series in a long time--the first season of its run that is! The following seasons are so un-true and un-depictive of teen life its not even funny. And I would know--I'm a teen! Watch something else.
She Fought Alone (1995)
As far as TV movies go,this measured up
I have seen this movie 3 times, and I have no idea why. Don't get me wrong--the first time was great, but after that, well there is a reason why you can't rent this movie. Thiessen--in better roles than the current ones she's been in--plays the older looking teen(the classic tv movie sitch)who gets raped by her "boyfriends" friend who lusts after her, and the whole town then turns against her b/c the two guys are star athletes.
I would have liked this movie had there not been 20 others like it. 7/10 for acting, 1/10 for originality. See it when its on, if you're bored.
Party of Five (1994)
UGHH..shut those whiny salingers up!
This had been a great series--yes I too grieved with the Salingers through the first 2 or 3 seasons(i lost count--they kept repeating the same story lines!) through cancer, death, alcholhism, abortion, pregnancy, miscarriage, depression, drug use ect... But darn it, shut those Salingers (esp. Claudia and Owen) up already! Enough is enough, leave with dignity while u still can!
Erin Brockovich (2000)
Did I like this movie?Yes. Did it get cheap laughs? Yes.
This movie was enjoyable enough..however if Ms. Roberts hadn't been it I doubt it would have been as packed a theatre as it was.. I personally think Julia Roberts is a middle-of-the-road actress, but I liked her better after seeing this movie.
This movie had a promising beginning, but after about the 100th swear word (I know thats how the real Erin Brokovich was but come on--get some better quips!!) it got kind of boring..Besides that it seemed long toward the end..also it tried (unsuccessfully as it appeared to me) to be heartwarming and emotion--but ended up just being a comedy. No one cried.
Still this movie is worth seeing just to say you saw it(along with the 20 million others who must have been seeing it the same night I was!)
American Beauty (1999)
Look Closer is what some movie go-ers should do!
Did I like this movie? Yeah. Was it the "Best Picture Of The Year?" NO!! Although it seems I am the only one that thinks this I stand my ground--this movie got cheap laughs from lewd jokes..nothing particularly wrong with that..IF it wouldn't have won best movie. In my opinion, best movie should be something touching, like "Cider House Rules." I will give this movie one thing: It had a haunting ending, that made me think to write this review months after I saw it. See it to say you saw it in other words.
Here on Earth (2000)
Not Oscar-worthy, but a pretty GOOD movie
I had actually been waiting for weeks for this movie to come out (I love good dramas ecspecially with new, young actors...) I had high expectations for this movie, and although they were nearly met, more plot development and less moping of the characters would have helped. Still, I found myself feeling sad for the good guy that doesn't get the girl, and happy for the other "good guy"(you have to see it to know what I mean.) Almost everyone around me was crying, and there were many touching points in the movie(ie.-"Kelley's Speech".) For some in the theater, during points that were supposed to make you mad, one guy sitting behind me actually yelled profanities at one of the characters who enraged him. Talk about involving your audience!
All in all ,see this movie when you feel like thinking about life--and the meaning, or lack thereof.
