Afraid of the Dark (1991)
I think it's about how this child uses fantasy and imagination to help him deal with his fear of impending blindness.
The boy cannot see the external world very well, so he has developed an enhanced internal vision, or imagination (first third of film plus other brief scenes). He is terrified of going blind because blindness makes one vulnerable to all sorts of dangers (hence the title). So he uses his fantasy world to empower himself. I think that's the point of this film. For example, there is no actual person who slashes blind people. This is one of his imagined threats. And he figures out a way to defend himself.
Rome Adventure (1962)
Travelogue for Italy
This was a good movie for adolescent girls in 1962. Today, it's good for armchair travelers and armchair nappers. Have it on while playing chess because there's virtually no plot to follow. The scenery and Troy Donahue are pretty to look at. Then suddenly, Al Hirt shows up as himself. What is he doing in this movie, I wonder? What is that creepy scene with his girlfriend all about? Then he is abruptly gone and never seen again. Oh well. Just another unnecessary scene. If you want to see a truly fine romantic film, get "Brief Encounter" (1945) directed by David Lean.

On the other hand, later in the movie, when a male character, with poor judgment due to illness and delirium, wants to carry out an extreme measure, the two women attempt to stop him in a very 1950s kind of way for women: desperate pleading. But then, 1958 is 20 years from Sigourney Weaver...
