Hiroshima (1995 TV Movie)

damn good
23 September 2003
Definitely one of the best historical movies I've seen. Doesn't cast political dispersions on the events or judge people in hindsight, simply gives a relatively even view of it from all sides (except for the Soviets, which would have been a good addition, if its ever even been discovered).

They did a really good job of mixing the B&W with color, old with new footage, etc. If you get a chance to see it, check it out.

a real stinker.

one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Looks like it was made in about a week with zero script. They must given Simon Yam a suitcase full of money and said 'no questions'.... special effects at the end are particularly horrendous. siran wrap is not a special effect!

Getting Any? (1994)

Silly, stupid, but really really funny
25 February 2003
One of the stupidest, most bizarre, and straight up perverted movies I've seen in a long time, but it was friggin' funny as hell. If you can handle 'stupid funny' then this movie is definitely enjoyable. Loosely organized around the fact that this perverted guy wants to score badly.... so he goes off and tries many different means to accomplish this task. The end degenerates into a big of a Godzilla parody, but still funny. be sure to stick around for the end of the credits too.

best HK film of the year...
30 January 2002
This movie is definitely one of, if not the best HK movie to come out in 2001. I'm a big Stephen Chow fan, who loves almost everything he does, but in this film he even manages to catch the attention of people who can't stand his other films. Unlike a lot of other HK movies that are /trying/ to reach higher production values, this film not only succeeds, but doesn't forget those other important parts, like story and acting! (look at Gen-Y cops for an example of poor story/acting with big budget effects).

A lot of the humor is particular to Chinese or HK tastes, so I'm curious how well this film will do with Western Audiences (I heard its going to be released in the US in April 2002), but if you appreciate HK movies in the slightest, you should enjoy this (and even then, I've heard good things from people who don't).

what the hell happened at the end?
30 January 2002
I don't know if the dvd I was watching was screwed up or something, or got mixed with some other film... but this movie starts out great and then takes a huge turn at the end in the wrong direction.

I don't know if its just these New Years films that have to get finished on time, so they hack up the story to finish it on time or what, but after starting so well, the end of this film is a big let down.

Cecilia is the best thing about this movie by far, this is one of her first big rolls and she handles it well, its a big departure from every other roll I've seen her in, which is what makes it so interesting, rather then just being the sweet good girl as in Help and Everyday is Valentines Day, etc, she plays a bitchy prostitute who learns to fall in love w/ Chow.

I recommend it to die hard Stephen Chow fans (like me) and die hard Cecilia fans (like I'm becoming).

Worth watching if you're up at 3:30 am...
18 June 2001
I was up at 3:30 am last night and this was on Showtime and for some reason I watched it. I can't say much for the genre... poorly made films with hardly any budget and hardly a script, but at least this one keeps a /somewhat/ interesting situation going as it leads from sexual encounter to sexual encounter. (Serg is the man! He scored w/ 3/5 of the eligible chicks on the boat!) Well the girls are pretty. The guys are buff. I'm going to go rent City of Industry to see more of 'Iwan'. :P

One of Stephen Chow's best
10 April 2001
I think this is one of Stephen Chow's best films. Lots of great gags, good action even. I strongly recommend it. Its a typical stephen chow comedy (him trying to work it on some super attractive woman despite being a loser), but its transposed on top of the basic theme of Bruce Lee's 'Fists of Fury' (also remade by Jet Li into 'Fist of Legend').
