Law & Order: Vaya Con Dios (2000)
Coincidence
This is quite an ambiguous story and a frustrating final twist. Anyway, initials R O T on Roger Thorne's shirt reminds me the same initials on Roger Thornhill's book of matches in North by Northwest film. You remember: what he says to Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) on the train, just "O" for nothing.
The Founder (2016)
Big Mac story
I am not completely convinced by this character. He steals the McDonald brothers' original idea, but was it a good idea? Meaning he should have stolen a better idea.
Anyway, when they meet for the first time (around 1954, isn't it?) they drive a brand new car. At the end of the film, that is around ten years later,we can see the same car in the parking lot, almost at the same place. This is strange.
Grace of Monaco (2014)
Mistake
Among some other mistakes, we can notice that "left handed" Nicole Kidman plays a "right handed" famous actress, that is, Grace Kelly. Watch when she signs an autograph before entering the Red Cross ball. It is strange that nobody mentioned that point before. On the other hand, I agree with people who found the script very poor. And what about Charles de Gaulle using English language. Most of all, not speaking French with Rainier. By the way, it is very funny to hear "Ray" for Rainier. I do not think this was actually the way people called him, besides Grace Kelly, of course. So, in a way or another,I think this film deserves its fate, that is to be shown only on TV.
The Fighting Generation (1944)
More on that short
Shot at the David O. Selznick Studios in a single day by Alfred Hitchcock on Monday, 9 October 1944. A production of the Sixth War Loan Trailer starring Jennifer Jones. Hitchcock’s name does not appear on the credits, and it must be said that it is impossible to recognize his style, his particular signature stamp or even his sense of humour in this short film. JJ's monologue was written by Stephen Lonsgstreet: “He’s asleep now. His name is Johnny. Private First Class, badly wounded on Saipan. As a nurse’s aide, I see many cases like this. Most of them are strangers to me. But Johnny, well, we were kids together. Johnny took me to my first (high school) dance, and knowing Johnny, I feel I know all the boys here. You see, they’re my generation, part of my world, my fun, my hopes. Someday all the boys and girls will come back home. No, not all of them. But those that do, you can help bring them back sooner by buying a share of their faith in victory. By buying a War Bond. You know, they used to talk about the lost generation. The forgotten generation. Of generations without hope. But not Johnny’s generation. Please be like Johnny. He didn’t think he’d have to fight so many battles. But he went right on, giving a little extra courage. So let’s all of us do a little something extra too. And buy that Bond beyond the one we’ve planned for. Surely that isn’t too much to do for a fighting generation.”
More information about that short can be found in a recent article(Alfred Hitchcock and The Fighting Generation) from the Australian SensesOfCinema website.
Aventure malgache (1944)
A recent article on Australian Web Journal SENSESOFCINEMA brings a lot of new information (cast, script, etc.)on this underrated film.
For example, interesting link between the French actor who plays MICHEL, and a character in a well known Stanley Donen movie.
A connection between DZ91,code name of a British Secret Service agent during WWII and Paul CLARUS,a French lawyer from Madagascar. Another point of view regarding the MOLIERE PLAYERS and some members of the Company.
Documents from the British National Archives, and from a French private collection.
Femmes chez Hitchcock (1997)
Tv & Radio
As a matter of fact, this is not a tv documentary, but a radio show aired on France Culture on July 8,1997.Nevertheless, the interviews by Brigitte Auber ( about To Catch A Thief) and Claude Jade ( about TOPAZ)look interesting ( only for French speaking people ).
Billy Elliot (2000)
British Film Festival winner
Back from DINARD ( France) and the British Film Festival.Billy ELLIOT won the HITCHCOCK D'OR ( golden Hitchcock Award) and the HITCHCOCK D'ARGENT ( silver Hitchcock Award): that means the jury and the public audience were completely in harmony ! Tears, laughs, and a huge applause. They all deserve that: Stephen DALDRY and Jamie BELL who is really FANTASTIC.That's the kind of British cinema that the whole world likes ( including France )!Hoping it will be a success in the USA too .
