Bombay Begums (2021)
Lame drivel
Badly acted, over-lit, boring direction, terrible script and cardboard caricatures masquerading as characters. This has got to be the worst Indian series I've seen. It really seems it was put together by committee- there's no authentic voice, no soul and no style. Don't waste your time!
All In: The Fight for Democracy (2020)
Essential viewing
Brilliant documentary which shows how people of colour have had to fight for democracy. The hypocrisy of the USA preaching to the rest of the world for decades on human rights is laid bare. Voter suppression and attempts to stop people of colour from voting has been going on for years and the republicans continue to use these tactics to cling to power. Well put together and moving documentary which is essential viewing for anyone who wants to understand why the USA is how it is today.
The White Tiger (2021)
Well-acted, tight script does justice to the book!
It's always with a wary eye that I settle in to watch a film adaptation of a favourite novel but this came up to expectations nicely. It's a great modern day parable of India showing the two worlds that co-exist there perfectly as well as the confusion from people who migrate from the west. The script is really funny at times though darkly so and the performances do it justice. Great acting and well-paced (always tricky with adaptations). Highly recommended!
Traces (2019)
Poor
Another run of the mill BBC production which is non inclusive and non-diverse. Clearly obvious in the first episode when one of the victims of the fire is called "Bashir Kumar" . A Muslim first name and a Hindu surname. The writer clearly clueless about names and people with south Asian origin. An all white production typical of BBC drama. Nothing special or ground breaking about the story. Yawn.
Strike Back: Revolution: Part 3 (2019)
Clearly not Goa
Anyone who's been to Goa will see the location doesn't look or feel anything like it. Or India for that matter. It's is clearly Malaysia - storyline is absurd - why not set it in Malaysia as that's where it's clearly shot. Series has rapidly deteriorated since series 5. Scripts and storylines getting worse. Gung ho brits running around causing mayhem hmm all very colonial and out of date.
Executions (1995)
A graphic campaigning documentary against capital punishment.
A critically acclaimed, 'must see' film for all those who believe in capital punishment. For the first time the use of executions as a means of punishment is thoroughly examined in all its forms and is shown to be cruel and inhumane. The film documents how capital punishment has been misused over the past 100 years and how governments and dictators have used it as a means of social control rather than for any judicial purpose.
