Stranger Than Paradise (1984)
A technical view to Stranger than paradise
Firstly, the editing techniques in this film are quite unusual. The story is separated into sixty seven fragments. A black screen separates each of these sixty-seven fragments. So, we can say that fade to black in this film is widely used. Actually, these fade to blacks are not common in contemporary films.
The style of 'Stranger than paradise' is rather minimalist. First of all, there is a lot silence in this film. As one commentator observed: `The most fascinating aspect of 'Stranger than paradise' is indeed the fact that it communicates so much with so little.' And also Jim Jarmusch, said: `That's what I like most about that film (indicating Stranger Than Paradise): the moments between dialogue when you understand what's happening between people without them saying anything.' In most films, the scenes in which the characters basically don't do anything are cut off. But in this film, we even see the scenes in which, nothing actually happens. As for this reason, the audience of this film cannot determine what's going to happen. When talking about this aspect of the film, Jim Jarmusch says: `If you stop the film at any point and ask the audience what was going to happen next, they would have no idea. They wouldn't really be thinking about it, but would be more concerned with the characters and what's happening to them'
Camera shots in 'Stranger than paradise' is quite simple. Camera movement is kept to minimum. Other than the tracking scene at the beginning of the film, the camera movements are very rare. Most of the time the camera is a motionless observational camera. Shots in the film are usually open frame. The audience can view people coming in and out of the frame. This makes the film rather realistic.
In the end, I can only say that, only because of its distinctive style, its worth watching
The Godfather Part III (1990)
A good film that doesn't go as a sequel
Godfather III is a good movie compared to other movies that we watch nowadays. However, it has nothing to do with the legendary "Godfather" If I did not know, I'd never be able to guess that, Francis Ford Coppola has directed this film, as well.
This film is a film of 90's. And, therefore, like most of the holywood films, its main focus is its budget, not the art. This film has been shot only for the reason of having more profit over the godfather. It's entirely a new film. Al Pacino is old and "VERY" different. He has his own character, and he doesn't act for the film. He rather plays a part of his life, in the way of the script. It's no good.
I have rated this film 6. It may indeed deserve 7, but I was so dissappointed to see such a different film that, I felt like to decrease its average.
I can say, at the end that, If you like cliché holywood films, and the new and old al pacino, you may watch this film. But if you wathched The godfather I and Godfather II, and liked them (you should LOVE them), don't ruin the taste, and don't ever watch this film. Trust me. Read the book, but don't watch it.
Makai tensho (1997)
No Jamil Al-Yaqubi, this film is not the sequel...
People are mostly fooled by the title "ninja" and name "jubei" but this film is not the sequel of the "legendry" Ninja Scroll.
The film is really(!) bad. A waste of money. I get bored writing these comments, but I felt like I had to this time, as I didn't want anyone else to fall into my position.
Jubei is Jubei Yagyu from Samurai Spirits but don't be fooled, the game being good doesn't mean that the movie is good as well.
One final important note: Film is not MANGA made, thus it is bad enough (Ninja Scroll was MANGA's)
