I do not mind a translation from book to film, but H.G. Wells' "Time Machine" should not even be referenced in this case. Wells wrote a book where the inspiration for a machine that could travel through time was simply a scientist's curiosity. This film adds (superimposes) a ridiculous Hollywood plot and instills revenge in the main character, a much less noble quality. This is a despicable movie.

It hurt to watch this movie, it really did... I wanted to like it, even going in. Shot obviously for very little cash, I looked past and told myself to appreciate the inspiration. Unfortunately, although I did appreciate the film on that level, the acting and editing was terrible, and the last 25-30 minutes were severe thumb-twiddling territory. A 95 minute film should not drag. The ratings for this one are good so far, but I fear that the friends and family might have had a say in that one. What was with those transitions? Dear Mr. Editor, did you just purchase your first copy of Adobe Premiere and make it your main goal to use all the goofy transitions that come with that silly program? Anyway... some better actors, a little more passion, and some more appealing editing and this makes a decent movie.

Eliminate the country, the brutal government, most real names, and what you have is a look into the inner sole of what it is to be human. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu does a masterful job with this piece based on a massacre of people and shooting of a war photographer. These BMW Films have all been exceptional. This is true art... when your friends complain about Hollywood, tell them they are not looking hard enough.

My word, I have never felt so exhaustively assaulted after seeing a
film. I walked home in the dizzying trance Requiem left me in. For
weeks afterward, I was thinking about this film almost every
moment my mind was free, wondering how it had completely put
me under its spell. It is a testament to film-making when
something so powerful can be released and grip an audience (or
at least this audience member) so hard-handedly. I found it
interesting that it was actually the sense of sound that was
assaulted the most, keeping me on edge throughout. Without
much to speak of in 2000, Requiem restores the faith in this art.
