The Passion of the Christ (2004)
Kudos to Mr. Gibson
Believer or non-believer, this film brings to light what is the absolute truth, that Jesus is the Christ. This film does what it can to depict an almost undepictable event that shaped humanity as we know it today.
A writer wrote "'The Passion of the Christ' is a historically precise, visually stunning, and viscerally moving portrayal of the crucifixion of Jesus. Yet the most important detail of Jesus' final hours is not in the film. What viewers do not see cannot be filmed."
The film does its job in showing the physical torment that Jesus experienced as he traded his righteousness for "our" unrighteousness. It cannot reveal the spiritual torment that was manifested as God exchanged his sinlessness and placed on him the weight of the penalty of all sin.
One amazing fact that is very evident in the film and in society today is that we lack that ability to recognize the truth when it right in our face. Many will argue about the non-essential values of this film to keep themselves from having to recognize that Christianity is not just the way for some, but the way for all. This film was designed to expose what we as believers know, that Jesus experienced a great deal of torture so that we can live and have the "freedom" to choose him and not die and go to hell. I believe that Mr. Gibson succeeded greatly in that and I pray that God would tremendously bless him as a result of this film. Many believe in him, few have the faith or finances to present him in this manner.
No movie, no book, no preacher has the power to change the minds and hearts of unbelievers, so I dont expect it to. Only God can! I hope this film opens the hearts and minds of those that dont believe so that Gods will can be fulfilled, that no man should perish.
Thanks Mel!
Pay It Forward (2000)
See it for yourself!!
After reading the many comments on this movie, I began to wonder who these people are writing these comments. Do they just not care or get so caught up in small details that they miss the overtly obvious underlying message. I went into the movie not really knowing the plot and having only seen a few previews; so I was wide open for what was going to happen in the film. To me this was a great movie, mainly because I really didnt have high expectations of it. I thought the acting was very good especially from Spacey and Osment. There were so many points made in the movie it was ridiculous. The actually theory of "pay it forward" was great, but I can see that our belief as a whole in the decency of man has all but disappeared. The motherhood or lack of parental guidance is extremely powerful. The sheer emotion Osment puts behind Trevor just wanting a mother that "truly" loves him is powerful. The scene with Spacey and Hunt outside Simonette's apartment as he explains what it feels like to be that son with the overly stupid and nieve mother was well needed for many woman. Then the ending that so many are disgusted in was great to me. Sure I would have preferred a different ending, but the one that was there stuck out almost more than anything in my mind. (DISCLAIMER: SPOILER AHEAD!!!) The fact that he touched so many people was awesome, but only believers would have felt that. Plus what I got out of the movie, especially the ending was that one young man, a son, gave his life for what he believed in so that he might make the world a better place. That should sound familiar, if u dont know what Im talking about try opening a bible and increase your knowledge in areas that really matter!!!
The Ladies Man (2000)
Extremely disappointed
This film was very well advertised. I am an avid movie goer and have seen previews for this movie for months. While I was somewhat skeptical of how funny this movie would actually be, my friends thought it was going to be great and hyped me up about it. Then I went and saw it, I was sunk down in my seat almost asleep until I remembered that I had paid for this movie. I made myself laugh at most of the stuff in the movie just so i wouldnt feel bad and destroy the good mood I was in, plus I wanted to get my monies worth out of the movie! I always go into a movie with an open mind, not trying to go into them with too many expectations, but this movie was not that funny. Now it wasnt the worst movie I've ever seen, but it is definitely worth waiting for HBO. If you havent seen many previews for the movie or you like very slow and corny comedies you may enjoy it, but for true comedy fans Id say pass. Maybe even check out The Kings of Comedy again. Something told me to go see Meet the Parents instead!!!
Remember the Titans (2000)
This movie had it all!!!
I think this was a very good movie. Ranks as one of my personal favorites. I think some of these other comments that talk about how it was lacking in different areas and the negativity towards the film need to lighten up and stop being so critical and deep. Take the movie for what it is. Yes it is a feel good movie. I do agree with the one comment about the song at the end of the movie, kinda threw me for a loop, but didnt destroy how much I enjoyed the film. The film was funny, racy (of course), nail biting, it had it all. I dont cry during films, but I felt that feeling coming, but sucked it up of course. I dont know much about the factual side of the movie, but beyond all that, it was a great moving film. Denzel was stellar, but then again when is he not. For those who are saying that I must not know anything about film, your wrong, I am a film major and have work on REAL films, short and feature (not just PA work either). The problem with most people who know anything about film is they think that movies have to have deep underlying messages, extremely compelling acting, and bar none directing to be a great movie. Learn to look at movies as they are, dont go into them expecting a glorious work of art all the time. Those that are will stand out for that. Remember the Titans is a wonderful movie for the entire family to see. Id go as far as to say worth seeing it more than once!!
The Perfect Storm (2000)
Intense, but long beginning
All in all I liked the film. It was very intense and the effects were great. The beginning of the film was extremely to long and drawn out. The character development was extremely obvious. I mean you know the outcome of the film and it all seems a bit unnecessary. Its like okay the girlfriend, mother, and the kid will all be sad because of their lose. If I hadnt heard anything about the story I would have known who was going to die by the way they portayed the characters in the beginning. The little boy, though cute, was a horrible addition if you ask me; terrible acting. I almost fell asleep on the beginning, almost wanted to leave. Then they got to the ocean and it got exciting. The rest of the movie kept me biting my nails. The antisipation factor was great! Would I recommend it yes, but you may want to come about 20 min after it starts.
